Less than 10% of the scholarships that will be awarded this year were awarded today, so there is plenty of reason for optimism for R2 and R3.are there still spots available for ivys+ for the second board? my 3 schools were georgetown notre dame and dartmouth, are there even any spots left come january? feeling very dejected. also any chance B/UC will change today?
that’s good, do the more competitive schools like, fill up before the start of the second board? because the first board is mostly ivys so do they give out ivy scholarships after the october board at all?Less than 10% of the scholarships that will be awarded this year were awarded today, so there is plenty of reason for optimism for R2 and R3.
Awesome, what were your stats?Congrats Everyone who accepted and good luck to those for future boards! You all worked hard.
I got accepted first board luckily!
Schools of Intent: Cornell, Harvard, Princeton
I wouldn't wait for the Army to reach out to your schools - YOU should contact your admission's rep today (as long as you see "winner" in your portal) and let them know the good news. I believe she also uploaded her winner letter to her awarded schools. My daughter did this and almost all of them responded with a congratulations and noted it would be added to her file. Congratulations!Got a question for anyone who has done this before, how do I accept the letter, and does all the DODMERB stuff have to be done before army reaches out to the college admissions dept? Really want to take advantage of the scholarship and ROTC will certainly help me get into school!
Sorry, I have no idea.that’s good, do the more competitive schools like, fill up before the start of the second board? because the first board is mostly ivys so do they give out ivy scholarships after the october board at all?
yeah! Know plenty of people who got Ivy/Ivy+ schools on 2nd/3rd board, probably plenty on this forumthat’s good, do the more competitive schools like, fill up before the start of the second board? because the first board is mostly ivys so do they give out ivy scholarships after the october board at all?
Your DS’s stats match my DS’s almost exactly. All the way from test scores to being homeschooled. He didn’t get one on the first board, but got a 4 year on the 2nd board last year. I’d say your DS has a great chance on the next board.Congrats to all the winners today! Celebrate, you deserve it.
My DS is heading to the 2nd board - as expected given the stats of 1st boards in the past. My DS has great "stats", but not at the ivy level. 1370 SAT, Eagle Scout, 3.96 unweighted GPA, intermural sport (homeschooled so no high school letters). Great PFT (maxed push up and sit ups, 7:10 run). Our biggest concern is how the interview went. DS was well prepared to answer anything and everything, but the interviewer only asked 3 very basic questions that didn't open the door for discussion. The interview lasted only 10 minutes, over zoom (out of state), with his top school. It was very strange. The interviewer didn't seem interested to do the interview at all. Is it appropriate to ask the interviewer how he was scored? Should DS reach out to the ROO? My DS also interviewed with the Field Force Representative for West Point. He had an amazing conversation and was given a rave review. The contrast between the two experiences was shocking. Any advice on how to proceed? Do nothing and wait and see how the chips fall? Or follow up?
Thank you for your encouragement! I'm glad to hear of homeschoolers getting the scholarship. I know that we are "accepted" but you wonder if there is a negative bias. I guess we will just have to put our focus on the things we can control and move on until February. The interview situation has just been a big downer. DS has read so much about how important it was to be ready for the interview and it really fell flat, seemly out of his control. I've encouraged him with the reality that the interviewer would have no justification to give him a negative review. The hard reality though is that he didn't talk with him long enough to really provide a positive review either. Disappointing, but that is a life lesson. I wouldn’t worry too much. The interviewer was likely in a hurry, which stinks, but he wouldn’t have given your DS bad scores for something out of his control.Thank you for your encouragement! Thank you! I just reached out to Cornell and told them the good news, along with uploading my letter. I was told by the PMS that interviewed me at Cornell (where I am EDing) that it would have a significant boost to my application, as Cornell is a AROTC host and therefore have some influence over admissions. Im not sure about Yale, as I know they aren't a host, and some of those other schools though.does it have a push with top schools like yale, Princeton?
I believe (quite sure) that the school choice does not play into the decision very much or at all because it is a cumulative points list. I believe the main difference is the Interview and the subjective score the board gives you based on resume, rec letter, and activitiesI saw that, but am confused because according to the charts and some of the others posted my son's score would be in the range of those who were awarded/selected today. So the only difference I am really seeing is the schools of intent. My son did not list any Ivy's. I wonder if that perhaps has something to do with it.
Just give you some more encouragement. Both of my homeschooled ds's were awarded AROTC scholarships during their cycles during the first board. They also both received AFROTC scholarships on the first boards. I do think ROTC and SAs give homeschoolers a fair look.Thank you for your encouragement!
