AROTC First board 2024-2025

My son just received this email from one of the schools he chose on his list, not his top school, and not where he had his PMS interview.

The results of the first ROTC Scholarship Board have been released. Unfortunately, they only made around 180 Offers to the many thousand of applicants.
At this time, you have not gotten an offer, but you will be reconsidered for the 2nd and 3rd Board. We get most of our offers from the 2d and 3rd Board.
You can increase your chances of winning a scholarship if you retake your SAT or ACT."

Also, with this process I was able to get a lot of insight from my PMS as well as studying the scoring system. If you have any questions related to the scoring or how results were scored feel free to reach out!

Did I win the scholarship to these schools or am I only eligible to apply for these schools? I'm a little confused because it says I won but it also says pending - not sure what to make of that.
Yes you did win those scholarships. You can apply to schools other than that and the reason it is pending is because you have not accepted the scholarship yet. On a side note if you get into a different school you want to go but did not win the scholarship to that school, you can transfer the scholarship if you would like to. (not a 100 percent guarantee)

Is there a way to see what DS score was?

congratulations to everyone who was a winner this round and the best of luck to everyone who is continuing in the further rounds (I have heard the vast majority of the scholarships are given out in the second and third boards so keep the faith!)
to answer some of the questions here based on my experience (my older daughter used her 4 year rotc scholarship and is a Lt in the army reserves now and my son was awarded the four year scholarship but chose to accept his appointment to West Point instead and is a plebe there now),
1. The number one thing I recommend is to reach out to the ROOs at the school(s) that you are applying to whether or not you were awarded a scholarship this round. they are the most knowledgeable people in terms of the ROTC program at that particular school and the person that would be most helpful in leveraging your scholarship to possibly help with admissions. The ROOs that my kids have worked with have been professional, helpful and above all very honest about what they can and can’t do in terms of admissions.
Most likely what they will tell you if they haven’t already is that the scholarship is not any type of guarantee of admissions, especially if you are far out of the range of test scores grades, etc., for that particular school. however, it certainly will not hurt you and it’s probably important to have it uploaded to your application package asap.
2. If you are a scholarship winner this time, Get going on your medical stuff through DODMERB as soon as you can. It’s a long process and it will likely require finding medical records and other information that may not be easy for you to get.
3. If you haven’t already, I highly recommend that you visit the ROTC detachment of the school you want to go to. if you are able to maybe do PT with them or at least spend some time with some of the cadets there you can really get a feel for the culture and what it means to be an ROTC cadet. again, this is some thing that I’m sure the ROOs can arrange.
Best of luck to all!

180 does not seem like many! Does anyone know the stats for previous years on the first round?

No, this is not released but based on the current winners and their stats, it is possible to know very close to what they got. There is a chart on a different forums with how scores are weighted that you can use for reference.

I did not have very exceptional test scores/GPA. For example, my UW cumulative GPA was a 3.55 and my superscored SAT was a 1440. Also, my PFT was a 146/150. I wholly believe the interview/essays had a much larger part to do with it than anything. You could have perfect scores but a terrible interview and I think that would sabotage you.

I saw that, but am confused because according to the charts and some of the others posted my son's score would be in the range of those who were awarded/selected today. So the only difference I am really seeing is the schools of intent. My son did not list any Ivy's. I wonder if that perhaps has something to do with it.

I am truly baffled. My son had a 32 ACT, 1460 (I think) SAT, 4.0 unweighted GPA, he's a nationally ranked athlete, he works, he does community service, he attended Boys State, 80% of his classes are AP, he's top 5% of his class, he was told he got full 200pts for his interview, his essays were great.... His PT was great, he maxed all but one of the criteria, and was slightly above average in that one.... so who knows.

From other threads I’ve read, yes. The Ivies get the first board.

I got an email from MIT's ROO, but the Army is not my first choice. Should I inform them that I'd like to wait until I get considered for NROTC/AFROTC before I accept anything? Would it even be possible to back out if I accept the scholarship? I'm applying EA there today/tomorrow and MIT has a specific section on the application to show that an applicant has won an ROTC scholarship

B/UC here as well. My stats are horrible but definitely aren't the worse. By far my weakest section was my standardized test scores, I have a 25 ACT and was curious if I take the ACT again and improve if that will increase my scores. I have been reading the posts here for the past week or so and have read conflicting information some saying that they wont review it again and some say they will. SOOOOO.... I was wondering if there is an incentive to retake the test to improve my scores and/or maybe try and pick up the few points I missed on the PFT.

are there still spots available for ivys+ for the second board? my 3 schools were georgetown notre dame and dartmouth, are there even any spots left come january? feeling very dejected. also any chance B/UC will change today?
