Greetings;

DS checked status of his AROTC application and noted that the message: "You have been selected for an interview. Please contact the Professor of Military Science at the school of your choice."

What is meant by "your choice"? His #1 university pick, or any university with an AROTC detachment?

Is there a preferance?

His first choice is Iowa State University which is approximately a 3.5 hour drive from home (Minneapolis-St. Paul Metro area). The University of Minnesota Twin Cities also has an AROTC detachment, but the school was not one of his scholarship application choices.

Really appreciate your feedback!

Thank you in advance!

Here are my thoughts. Cadet Command has sent letters out in the past that give you a little more guidance than the online status page. They have provided a list of the 5 closest schools with contact information. As I said in my blog, I recommend interviewing at one of your top choices if you have the option. 3.5 hours will be well worth the drive in my opinion.

I agree with Clarkson. Also, you may want to consider combining the interview with a visit. My daughter got the invitation for an interview as well. Since we already had a campus visit planned for North Georgia next week, we just contacted the PMS at that school and scheduled the interview for prior to the tour-killed two birds with one stone. Good luck!

Thank you!

Thank you for the prompt replies! That was my thought as well- focus on his top choice and combine with a visit. It would certainly seem that making a favorable impression with the gaining detachment would be beneficial and establish an applicant's face with a name.

Also, dont overlook the benefits of a thank you note after your interview/visit. It will show that you are dedicated and keep you in their minds as a potential candidate. My daughter wrote a really nice thank you note to North Georgia right after our visit.
