Article - Swab Summer, And The Livin' Isn't So Easy

yeah he made it... I just saw him today as a matter of fact. He definitely didn't have an easy summer though, I'll just leave it there. Don't want to look like I'm trashing a classmate you know?
 
It's not easy for everyone. Someone gets IT, extra focus. Be thankful it wasn't you appreciate the redirected focus off of you and onto the classmate.

One thing you'll realize is you help each other out, you were helped by some good people, and that is a bond you will never lose, not when you become 3/c, or 2/c, not when you receive your commission.

I can name the people who helped me.

Do the swabs qualify with a pistol at any time during swab summer? My husband thought maybe they have to shoot the 9mm? I know they drill with their "piece" (gun, is that the right terminology?) while in formation. BTW, the one used in drills, is that a wooden replica of a certain rifle? Sorry if silly question, I'm not well-versed on weaponry and was curious...just really wanted to know what Coasties are armed with while on the boats, too. Thanks.

I hear that there are plans to build a new (decent) firing range at the academy in 3 years (it will be where the lower 1/c parking lot is) and that they are pushing for some type of basic rifle and pistol training for swab summer with it.

heard this during our intro class to the different weapons that the CG uses and stuff.... stinks for me because they didn't have it during my swab summer and that when i'm a 1/c i won't have parking
 
also, the piece is a US rifle, caliber .30, M-1 Gas operated clip fed air cooled semi automatic shoulder weapon.... (couldn't resist)

but some are filled with lead, and the newer ones are with something else... i know because i picked up someone else's piece when moving and it was a good 5 lbs lighter than mine.... wasn't too happy because I was ITed quite often during swab summer with the rifle.....
oh well.
 
Given you need to requalify every year, there is no need to have weapons training, and I would love to know where the parking would be moved to, now that half of upper lot is gone as well...

No need to have weapons training as a swab.
