I am currently a junior and am tirelessly working on my application to USMA. However I have asthma and after reading through some of these posts I am starting to feel discouraged as to getting into the academy. I have had asthma since I was young and I understand that is a disqualification with DoDMERB. I do take an inhaler every so often before physical activity. But I play football and wrestle and run track and have never had a serious problem with the asthma. I am wondering what my chances are of getting a waiver. please help!

Asthma waivers are possible, but frequent or current the use of an inhaler can decrease your chances.

Don't let the possibility of a DQ stop you from applying.

WPhopeful2014, I am interested int he answer as well. Would you mind sharing what you learned?

Thank you for your help

Larry, we just got word that my son was granted a waiver. I would like to thank you for all of your help. It was very nice to have a "real person" responding to our questions. You made the that process much easier on us.

Congrats! Best of luck to your son:thumb:

Now THAT is a compliment. I've been called a lot of things in my day, but to be called a "real person" in this environment is an honor indeed. Thx:thumb:

Hey folks!

As I've said here many times and I'll reiterate because I'm a huge fan...

Larry has TOTALLY changed the "face" of DODMERB. In my 26 years of AF service (not counting the years of trying to get to USAFA) DODMERB was "the enemy" of all trying to get to USAFA, USMA, USNA, et. al. We just "knew" they hated us and were out to get all of us.

HE has single-handedly changed that image. I know there's a LOT of folks working there with him that we do NOT see, and they're working VERY hard to help ALL achieve their goals if possible, but he has been the "visible" force. And it has REALLY changed the entire image!

The entire DODMERB staff has REALLY shown they're there for YOU.

It's really excellent to see!!!

Can't get enough compliments IMHO.

Thanks:) There are actually a total of 44 dedicated folks working tirlessly to help "leave no applicant behind" and ensure the DoDMERB process is as "seamless, transparent, and frictionless" as possible.:thumb:
