Does anyone know why I may have received a disqualification on my DoDMerb for asthma after 13 when, to the best of my knowledge, I don’t have anything on my record regarding that? I am going through the waiver process already, but I don’t see why I was DQ’d.

I can't answer your question, but I would say you can have confidence in a very thorough waiver process. Of course, it's also great news that USAFA has requested a waiver on your behalf, an indication that your application is strong. Good luck working through the process.

Asthma is just one of conditions under the umbrella of "airway hyperresponsiveness."

The DQ in the DODI is history of symptoms suggestive of airway hyperresponsiveness after the 13th bday. It's also if you were prescribed medications (even if you didn't use them) for symptoms of airway hyperreponsiveness after the 13th bday.

Maybe DoDMERB got a hold of your pharmacy records and saw you had inhalers prescribed after the 13th bday.

Or the doctor who examined you made a note in the dd2807-2 that suggested you had airway hyperresponsiveness or been prescribed meds for it after your 13th bday.

When you filled out your medical information online, did you mark that you had it "once upon a time" but not now?

That’s what I’ve heard, but wanted to check. Thank you!

I can’t quite remember. But, I checked with my doctor and the only thing ever called “asthmatic” is before 13 (and nothing said continued symptoms).

There are a couple of questions on the online form...checking them will trigger an asthma DQ. "Exercise-induced bronchospasm" is one that one of my candidates is dealing with now.

Work with DODMERB...they have a process.

For our DS2027, they requested 10 years of medication records and ALL Asthma related Clinical notes. Gather that up, if you haven't been requested already, to be prepared. We also pro-actively had full lung function tests performed and added that to the requested data. Every situation is different. Good luck.
