My condition i need to waived is a history of asthma past age 13, and I do not have asthma anymore, and that's confirmed on my last medical physical from a year ago.

I have not shown any asthma symptoms since I was maybe 12, but I've still had precautionary meds past that date, up until I was 15 years old. I looked at the only 2 physicals I had past age 13, and they both said "No Shortness of Breath with exercise" and "Lungs: No wheezes, crackles; good air movement.". And on my last physical from a year ago, there were no mentions of asthma and no prescriptions for it. My doctor is also writing a letter explaining how my childhood asthma has regressed and died out over the years.

I'm also going to write a letter to USMA/USAFA waiver authorities explaining my condition. I think I am going to include that I have grown up and worked on a farm, and have been subjected to a lot dust, hay pollen, and chemicals and have been asymptomatic for some time now.

Sorry for the long description, but can you all tell me your opinions about what my chances are?

As of now, USMA and USAFA requested remedials through dodmerb, requesting that I provide all medical records from age 10-present.

If you post your question in the DODMERB forum, you will probably get a quicker and more accurate answer. Its just below the service academy choices. Good Luck!

I can only speak to USNA, where it is extremely difficult to get a waiver for asthma past age 13. However, every case is different.

Go to the DODMERB board and send a message to Larry Mullen at the address he gives. He can help you with your particular situation, which is the only one that should and does matter to you.

My daughter went through similar remedials -- she is now a cadet. Get advice from Larry Mullen under DodMERB listing. He is your best resource on this issue.

I've got all of my medical records ready to go now, and I was thinking about sending a letter from my doctor explaining that my asthma has regressed over the years and is now non-existent. Would this be a good thing to send with my remedial, and ask DoDMERB to forward it to the waiver authorities at USAFA and USMA?

cmcollum,
I would not send a thing until you go to the forum below entitled DODMERB, pose your question there. Larry Mullen seems to respond within 24 from what I've seen if not sooner. He will give you an email address to send all your details to and he will get back to you very promptly and tell you exactly what you should do. He is the authority on anything DODMERB related.

Absolutely agree with person immediately above. DO NOT send anything until you have exchanged information with Mr. Mullen. As a parent, I also recommend that you get a parent or parents or other guardian involved in the decisions that you make re remedial/waiver, etc. This can be a daunting process.
