I apologize for the silly question. I tried to search, but the results are too broad. At one point is one's DC considered a midshipman? He's received letters addressed to Candidate Midshipmen and I'm wondering if it's after graduation from NSI or when he starts school. Thanks in advance for any guidance! I don't want to be presumptuous or not know what I'm talking about, lol.

I was wondering the same thing. I just watched the NSI Cycle 1 graduation video and at the end the presenter said that they are no longer Candidates, they are now Midshipmen 4th Class.

Ok, here’s the dealio. Straight talk. Yes I agree at Great Lakes those words were said which congratulated your DCs on now being midshipmen fourth class yesterday. Same happened a couple years back. But back at your unit /at your universities this August, there May be NSO which includes college programmers and those who went to NSI. Together. And at SOME of your units your entire group won’t be considered or addressed as a mid until they declare you all as mids. Fair warning or whatever. Is that unringing a bell? No, just a lack of alignment between big navy and little navy. It happens at SOME schools. other schools you’re acknowledged. Recommendation is just lay low and roll with it. And that’s all on this folks for now. Once your unit calls you a mid is when I’d consider the titles ready to use / bestowed.

You're a midshipman once you take the midshipman oath at your respective unit. Usually happens at the end of whatever NSO your unit puts on.
