Back pack or carry on for R Day?

Looking at different academy reporting social media and wondering if back pack or carry on is better for R Day. Dont want to be the odd one out...thanks!
 
Less is more. Smaller is better. Use common sense.
 
oNOTHING WITH WHEELS. Either a big backpack or a duffelbag with a big strap for over the shoulder. You do not want to drag a wheelie suitcase. Don't be that guy.
Good luck on Monday. We are all cheering for you.

DS used a large [not huge] gym duffle with shoulder strap. Some kind of strap is good - not just handles.
Infamous pic from last year with some poor guy hugging his roll-on luggage with both arms. Don't be him.
 
What about prior enlisted with uniforms already? That's extra luggage
 
Backpack with boots inside, not tied dangling on the outside. There are many threads discussing some or the extra" nice" things to bring along that are authorized,but not on the packing list. Wear your low quarters. Everything you need can and should fit in the backpack.
SOC tactical backpack is authorized as well as an awesome choice. DS uses his for the academic year and flight travel. Don't buy a cheaper replica that looks nearly identical, have heard bad things about them.
You don't want to have to carry anything on RDay
