Thanksgiving is our favorite holiday around here. We invite any orphans (or even whole families) to join us. This year we'll have about 27 people including several military guys from our church. 2 things are mandatory: Eat up and make yourself at home. Last year we cut it off at midnight because our Balderdash game was heading downhill quickly.

I'll have 42 lbs of turkey and a ham. DS (the 17yo) will have several board games ready to go and the TV will be airing football in front of a nap-worthy couch.

It is hard to pick a favorite side. Our family always makes homemade crescent rolls which are amazing. My 10yo DS cooked up the 2nd batch yesterday. Mashed potatoes drenched in gravy? Yes, please! I have become slightly famous for my pretzel salad just because one of our longtime guests loves it...not because I have some secret ingredient.

BTW, I will match my homemade cranberry jelly against any canned stuff. There are no chunks in it and takes about 15 mins to make. So good. It is the Joy of Cooking recipe that my dh's grandmother made for years before she passed.

I hope everyone has some fun plans for tomorrow. Let the Wednesday starving commerce...is that just me?

No Wednesday starving here. We cook almost everything but the turkey on Wednesday (in progress now) as a family (me, DH, son, my mom)—it’s the highlight of our year. T-day itself is almost inconsequential. I make a pot of clam chowder and cheddar popovers early Wednesday afternoon along with setting up a never-ending champagne bar so we can sip and eat as we cook the Thanksgiving hors d’oeuvres, stuffing, sides, and desserts. We each have our recipe cards, roll up our sleeves, turn up the music, and go at it. It’s an all afternoon/evening riot of kitchen and cooking fun. We even set the table the day before (china, silver, crystal, linen, the works).

Thanksgiving morning, DH and son to the turkey on the grill, and we have a leisurely day as we only need to warm up the go-withs. We enjoy the meal but not as much as the making of it.

This year, for the first time, we are having Thanksgiving at our son’s, but he insists that we do it exactly as we’ve always done at home, so the tradition continues. His GF is in for a treat. (She’s making the pies.)

I was hanging with the grandsons Sunday and the 7 year old said, why don't you come here for Thanksgiving this year?

I said, OK are you going to cook?

No he said, you can bring it here.

DW is cooking now. Grandsons, daughter, and SIL will be over tomorrow if they want to eat.
