BGO changed status from recommended to not recommended...?

Seems weird to me. I don't know if BGOs monitor social media for their candidates, but can you think back if there was anything posted on social media by you that might have changed his opinion of you? My kids are D1 level athletes and their club coaches hammer into them to keep their social media clean because potential coaches monitor them on players they are interested in.

Probably. Then again any college could/would do that do its not really just a Navy/BGO thing

I actually do not have any social media accounts, aside from a Facebook account I set up a few months ago to have better access to Service Academy news. I do not post or comment on anything and have only "friended" a few classmates.

I personally don't know any BGOs who monitor their candidates' social media. I at least have better things to do with my life. :)
Might not be a bad idea to quickly scan for questionable things. I know college coaches do this, and employers also do this. My DH coached a baseball team and found out through a wide open Instagram account of one of his players that he regularly was a partaker of "dirty sprite". (and we had to google this lol!)

Two points. First of all, it's not our job. Seriously. BGOs are not directed to do this by USNA nor do I think they should be. Second, this would "require" BGOs themselves to participate in social media. For many reasons, including privacy, many people don't want to be involved in FB, Twitter, etc.

IMHO, if USNA wants info on its candidates via social media, it can use government personnel to accomplish this goal. That said, if some BGOs want to monitor their candidates' social media, more power to them.

The larger point, however, is well-taken: be careful about what is posted about you on social media that is readily accessible.

Personally, I would be more worried about what the midshipmen would find! I know for a fact that they try to figure out who's been appointed and then do their own searches. You have been warned! :zip:
