As of late, I have struggled to write the required biographical sketch for my USMMA application. What is the safest style of essay for being admitted? How do you recommend structuring the paper? Practicing good grammar and being genuine is important, of course, but it's challenging to apply that when you don't know where to start or how to end.

Also, does the sentiment "show, don't tell" apply to USMMA admissions specifically? I prefer people to be forthright in conversation, but is a novelization of your life story better suited to the biographical sketch?

Thank you!

Hi, I’m a fellow applicant as well. I’ll let others comment on essay specifics. I’m just wondering,
did you read the paragraph in the Instructions to Candidates booklet that discusses the biographical essay? If you haven’t, you should do-so, it contains very important information.

I did read the instructions. Thank you, though.

If Admissions were seeking only a specific format, that would be in the instructions. They are just trying to find out a bit more about you. Don't over think this question. By "novelization," be careful not to embellish the truth about your life story. As long as you are truthful, I am sure any format is fine.
