Does anyone have any info or experiences on the Blue Chip Dinner? I received an invite earlier this month but have found no additional information on what it entails. I am not a recruited athlete or "blue chip," so I am just curious if anyone has any info.

A quick perusing of the N. Texas Alumni Assoc Chapter says its an annual dinner where they invite highly qualified academic and athletic candidates identified by Admissions to the dinner. The purpose is to show you what the Academy is really about. Admissions assumes that based on your qualifications, USNA is in competition with many other universities and opportunities. So, they invite you to dinner and have the Supe speak about what it means to go to USNA and the opportunities it provides.

TL;DR: USNA thinks you're highly qualified, so they are inviting you to dinner so they can show you what USNA has to offer.

Thanks for the info!!

it is a great event! I have a youngster and we are attending tomorrow night to the blue chip dinner! you will be so happy that you went - lots to learn!! The Supe and Dant will be there and will be speaking - they will have midshipmen speaking too - plus you will be able to ask lots of questions to current Midshipmen attending!!

This is awesome! I think it’s awesome you guys are attending and paying it all forward. So glad you get to see your kiddo as well.

I will also be going, but just curious what is the dress code? I assume suit and tie?

It's dressy, yes suit and tie. Ross Perot attended every year until he passed, my son treasures the picture with him. The speaker is phenomenal if it's the same one they had in 2016 and 2018. They'll also give out appointments. Truly a wonderful event!

Well that was an amazing Blue Chip Dinner!! Admiral Buck handed out a bunch of appointments!! So incredibly cool!! He also announced 3 LOAs. I was getting teary and these are not my kids. My youngster daughter was laughing at me.
I was one that was offered an appointment from Admiral Buck! It was so surreal getting to shake his hand and stand next to all of the other outstanding kids.

Thoughts and impressions of the different Service Academies "blue chip" prospect efforts in North Texas.

1) West Point - Hackberry Creek, Las Colinas . Late September. DS left impressed by the speakers and the program content. Learned so much about the Nomination process and North Texas Parents Association. Speakers were a mix of old and young and talked about careers after West Point. Uplifting. Food was good. Buffet Style. No cadets, but young alums.

2) Air Force - CR Smith Museum (American Airlines) near DFW Airport. Little disjointed moving around in groups. Hard to hear in hanger. Lots of information about logistics of evening with little content. DS was really interested in hearing about cadet life, careers, majors, space force and how cadets are chosen for equipment. Didn't really hear much except for cadet life (everyone is busy). Food was Subway sandwiches. Cadets were there but hard to approach as they were seated at tables. Seemed very casual. Lots of talk about equipment that a 17 year old wouldn't understand. Speakers were mostly older except when cadets spoke.

3) Navy - Royal Oaks Country Club, Dallas. Later in the process than West Point. Nominations, applications completed etc. Speaker (Superintendent of Academy). Food was served - was ok - but not as good as West Point. Cadets were there. Program was similar to West Point - but speakers were prepared vs off the cuff. Very motivational. Appointments and LOAs were handed out at end was emotional. Overall left a great impression. Seemed like attendance was twice as big as West Point. Had Roger Staubach!

4) Navy had OPINFO over Thanksgiving with a number of cadets. Las Colinas. Very approachable. Able to ask lots of questions.

5) West Point offered cadet to meet with 1:1 over Thanksgiving. Was able to dive deep. Not sure which approach was better as DS saw value in both approaches.

What works well:
1) organized program with Speakers who have a specific purpose for their speech
2) explain what academy does well and why someone should come there
3) cadet life experience - overall message "you can do this"!
4) Songs work!
5) Food matters to a 17 year old
