Boarded/Under Consideration after the first two days of October board?

You guys are reading my mind about my daughter's b/uc status. Just got to wait.

What does ds mean btw?

Lastly, do 3YRs historically go in later boards?
DS = Dear Son; DD = Dear Daughter

3YRS are in 2nd and 3rd boards. 4YRS are 1st, some 2nd, and random 3rd (from what I've gathered).

Once your DD/DS can no longer change the college choices, that's a GOOD SIGN.

My guess about the difference between Boarded and B/UC is that B/UC means you are in consideration during that board for a scholarship and are being considered for one. If you go back to being boarded, it means that they did not select you to this round for a scholarship, and you will be sent to the next board, but your app has been already looked at which is why it is boarded. Again, completely just my guess. B/UC means your still in the running during current board sesssion, boarded means you have been sent to the next board.

@THmom - Does all of this seem like deja vu? Seems like yesterday that our DSs/DDs were going through the same thing!

If you read back over the posts after boards over the last year or two, you will see how the progression usually went.

Also, keep in mind that some applicants "on the bubble" who may not qualify for a 3 or 4 year could be offered the "Ike Skelton Scholarship" Early Commissioning Program which requires admission to one of the four Military Junior Colleges.

When will the Scholarships for the october board be announced? has anyone recieved one yet?

Excited to start this journey with our daughter. We did this 2 years ago with our son who was awarded a 4-year to his top 3 on the second board (he did not apply to the first board, was waiting to increase SAT score). Our daughter's SAT score is not as good as her brother, she only took the test one time for practice over a year ago and spent months with an SAT tutor only to have every single SAT canceled, like so many others. She was scheduled in March, May, Aug, Sept, Oct, and they were all canceled and there was not a test within a 6-hour drive so she just went ahead and submitted with the SAT score that she had and hoped for the best. Her stats are as follows:

4.0 UW GPA, 4.28 W
Class rank 21 out of 319
1180 SAT
3 sport varsity athlete all 4 years of high school, she should have 11 Varsity letters at graduation
Team Captain 2 sports, Junior and Senior year
NHS
All-district and all-region for sophomore and junior year (2 sports)
State championship qualifier, sophomore year, track
MVP sophomore season (track)
Best female athlete junior season (indoor track)
Competitive cheer
Leadership Club
Student to Student Club
Part-time job, 15-20 hours a week

She maxed out her run time and push-ups, and think she did 34 sit-ups. She said that her interview went "okay," she's not much of a talker, is more of an observer, tends to sit quietly and take things in while coming up with a plan. Gets intimidated speaking to new people and hates to have the spotlight on her at all, so a few personality quirks that may have carried over into the interview.

I think the SAT is her weakness and might keep her from getting a scholarship at all, but she still wanted to get everything in for the 1st board because she knows there is very little chance that she will be able to take the SAT anytime in the future, and honestly, she stopped studying for it after the 3rd canceled test.

She is like everyone else and currently Boarded/Under Consideration, these next couple of weeks are going to be stressful as she is anxiously awaiting an admission decision to Texas A&M, her dream school but more difficult considering that she is out of state. She's gotten into all of the schools that she has applied to with 60-80k scholarships but of course, they are not Texas so she still waits....

Good luck everyone, I remember how excited we were when my son received his scholarship 2 years ago and he is very happy in his 2nd year and loving it.

Encourage her to retest. Our son jumped 130 points with 6 weeks of prep on Khan Academy (which is the official prep of SAT). I asked him if he thought he got 130 points smarter, and he affirmed that he just got 130 points better at taking the SAT. Good luck to her and to all of these great kids!

Good luck to your daughter. She has an impressive resume. She should get into A&M, even coming from out of state, with those credentials. Too bad her high school hasn't offered the SAT in school. That has allowed a lot of kids by us here in Massachusetts to take it who otherwise haven't had the opportunity.

Retesting is not an option, every single testing center within a reasonable driving distance is closed and we are assuming it will be the same for the December test. There is no in-person instruction in our district and they have no plans to likely entertain schools re-opening before January. With that being said, the next test that might be a possibility is March, which obviously would not help her ROTC application. Since her top schools were test-optional she was able to get all of her applications submitted and did not have to stress about the possibility of driving 8-10 hours to find a testing site, if there were even slots open. Additionally, she said something to me that really made more sense in the big scheme of things so I did not push the SAT issue any further with her. She said to her father and I, "If someone values a one-time test score for a practice test that I took over a year ago above my GPA, class rank, 7 AP, 2 dual-enrollment, 5 honors classes, and everything else I have accomplished, so be it, I've done everything I can to prove my commitment." After she said that to us, we never brought up her retaking the test again. Because in all honestly, she is right. This class of seniors has faced so much uncertainty, and my daughter like so many others has been forced to basically teach themselves on-line because of haphazard virtual instruction put together by unprepared school districts. These kids need some grace and like all of the universities around the country, test scores shouldn't even come into play when making decisions regarding the academic ability of this year's graduates.

For those who have and are parents of scholarship recipients, did you (or your DS/DD) Receive an email regarding it right when they were chosen? Trying to figure if I should keep checking my AROTC account or just leave it alone and wait for an email.

No email. Just keep checking. :(

Does being able to get into a school have any bearing on AFROTC? Is it based on the two schools candidates list? So if your candidate lists Harvard and Yale (mine didn't lol) does the Board take into account if the candidate can get in to those schools?

I am driving my DD nuts because I keep asking her to check her status. It still says "eligible" and that it will be reviewed during the October 19th Board and she will be notified October 30th. I'm a little concerned because other candidates and parents on here have noted that their app status has changed. I'm not sure what to make of it? She has already been contacted by the commander of the ROTC unit at the school she is applying to prior to her completing her application.
