Booster Vaccines (NOT COVID)

In anticipation of BCT and Academy attendance, I read in last year’s Cadet guide that several boosters ( polio, Tdap….) will be given at BCT. I’m hoping that my son will be able to get them during his final pediatric visit next month to avoid any reactions during basic. I emailed the medical office about 3 weeks ago and haven’t heard back. Do most cadets take care of this in advance? Any tips for getting a response from medical to confirm shots? Thanks

Can't speak for USAFA, but my son is a plebe at USMA. Last year, he had to get many of the same boosters and he took care of that in the spring before he arrived. Then he just had to provide his updated shot record. At the time, it was also important to get those boosters because presumably there had to be additional time between them and the COVID vaccine.

If possible, appointees should get all required vaccinations/boosters before reporting to BCT to avoid any reactions and/or soreness as a result of getting missing vaccinations on Inprocessing Day

DD got all her shots before reporting for I-day. In the appointee booklet there was a section about required vaccines, I recall the way it was worded for a shot or two was confusing. I can't recall exactly, but it had to do with the timeframe and number of shots required. Regardless, there was a telephone number included for medical questions that DD called. She had her vaccine record in hand and went through it with the medical person to get confirmation on what she exactly needed then scheduled the vaccines to be completed. No sore arms (from vaccines) during BCT.

The only issue is the appointee booklet has not been made available. I believe the most recent information states that information will be coming out April 15th

In April they will get tons of checklists and forms. One has the list of vaccines. I’d make an appointment for mid to late April to get the vaccines done prior. I let our pediatricians office know the specific vaccines he needed because a few they didn’t keep there, but we’re able to have so we got it all in one day. Some may require a follow up/ I’d get as much done before as I could!

If look into getting the wisdom teeth out too!

I looked at last years vaccines and was told they would be the same in my 2026 group (not sure about covid, but my son has had all 3 shots, so not worried about that). He is up to date on all his shots but has to get (and we just did) polio & tetanus again because they didn’t fall into the time frame they wanted. He also got the titer on 4 of them that he has had so he hopefully doesn’t have to get them repeated, we will see what the results are. I’m trying to avoid him getting a bunch on I Day. He will take his shot records & titer tests (should they say he is all good) with him too. Also are getting his wisdom teeth looked at to determine that situation and will get out during spring break if needed.

Another place for shots, is your county health department.

HI All,

Does anyone have list of Vaccine shots SAs needs at the time of arrivals. May be list from 2025 will help. This will help us better prepare ahead of time. My DS is up-to-date on most of it as per Doctor recommendations, not what is SAs requirements are.

Last year’s immunization form from the PTR is available in the USNA website. If you are over 18, it specifies your polio booster needs to be the adult dose. Our peds office did not stock those, so they sent him to the health department.

Ignore this , Got one on USMA forum

Where does the titer is done ? with an assumption that all current immunization record from doctors office may not work ?
I would not rely on last years information. The info for the current incoming class will be provided with plenty of time to take care of immunizations.

I hope so. Our worry is if current doctor immunization records accepted at SA (with/without Titer test) otherwise, its a long list of shots

Have you already asked the SA if you can use the "titer" to validate immunization(s)?
