Boot Letter Question

How often does the boot letter change, and do you think it will change this year? I’m headed down to Parris Island for my brother’s graduation and it’s the only time I’ll have the time to actually buy boots in store. I want to get the correct size so I really don’t want to risk buying them online. Should I just take the chance and buy a pair of boots that were on last year’s letter?

EDIT: I just called the MCX and they don’t carry any of the authorized brands. However, I’m still curious about whether the boot list changes frequently and/or if it will change this year.

One constant about the military is change. Change happens month to month, year to year — depends on who’s in charge and how they feel about prior practices. Each year, more than a thousand new cadets figure out the boot thing without trying them on at Parris Island (or any other installation). Online shopping allows you to order multiple items and return what doesn’t work. So be patient. You’ll be just fine waiting for the letter, just as thousands before you.

The Marine Corps wears a completely different boot from the Army. This is one where you will have to wait. Otherwise, if you get your boots too early, you will burn through them and have to break in new boots before Beast. You will be provided with a means to order online in the letter from official sources. Otherwise, you can get them through Amazon, Zappos, USPatriotTactical, etc. Again, this is the marathon part of it. You know early in the cycle--now you have to stay healthy, stay motivated, stay out of trouble, and stay out of the hospital. Enjoy this holiday season with your family--they will miss you when you are at West Point next year.
