Boots?

I just received my LOA and I have my nomination interviews this weekend, and hopefully everything will go as planned. If that's the case, is it too early to buy combat boots? What's the policy with purchasing them? Do the Service Academies give them to you or send you a specific type? Or can you just buy some online? Any help would be greatly appreciated! (And if things don't go how I expect them to, an extra pair of work boots won't be such a bad thing) :)

After you are appointed and accept your appointment, you receive all kinds of pertinent info on your portal. One piece of info is the "boot letter," which tells you which brands/colors are approved. This changes from time to time, so at this point, it's too early to get your boots. You should have the info by March or April, which is plenty of time to get those boots broken in. Good luck to you.

Wait for the boot letter. As @mom3boys pointed out, there are changes in the required boots from time to time.
The newer boots that the cadets have to buy are much easier to break in than the ones from the past. They feel more like sneakers than the kind of boots our father's got in the army to wear.

True. So very true. And a lot easier to maintain.

You will get all the info you need. Purchase as early as possible. If you do by mail they never fit right. Supplies are limited. It can be a hassle. Start early in everything. Enjoy it.
