Boy's State

marciemi,

does west point give you any credit if you were supposed to go to boy's state but SLS conflicted with it? Like a nod that you showed interest and were admitted to the program?

Jake - I don't think anyone outside the admissions boards knows for sure what WP gives and doesn't give credit for, but it's one more thing that looks good to them and to the MOC's, so I'd certainly list it. Is it worth more than say French club treasurer or a certain rank in JROTC or whatever - who knows? But it would certainly be something you could bring up at your MOC interviews - that you were selected but decided to attend SLS and learn more about the academy instead.

Similarly, if you were selected for both but opted to choose Boys' State instead, I would also still include your SLS acceptance on your MOC resumes. (WP knows you were selected for it and it shows up on the MALO database, even if you don't attend).

thank you very much for clearing that up.
generations of candidates(and candidates' parents) have probably wondered what the exact ranking system of extracirricular activities, etc. is for the admissions board. One thing is for sure: the admissions board knows how to keep a secret!

Look, don't overthink this. If you choose SLS over Boys State because you wanted SLS then it's good. No one should choose to do something just because they think it looks good.
What admissions knows is that candidates who attend Boys or Girls State show leadership and they get points for doing this.
If you really are interested in Boys or Girls State then go. If SLS interests you more then go to that. Don't beat yourself up over either one.
