hey guys I just ran and lost 2 different positions for boys state is it worth it to put down these efforts in application?

The West Point application has check boxes for Boys’ State attendee and State Gov/Lt Gov (plus corresponding national). Unless you earn a special award at the end of the week that you would like to mention or you fit the Gov/Lt category, don’t worry about specific positions.

The big deals are Gov, Lt Gov, the two Senators and their alternates. Beyond those six, I would not make a big deal about it. You can save it as a slip in at interviews.

Our son recently attended Boy's State. He chose to ride the charter bus to the event and had a great opportunity to meet other delegates and network on the bus. They were encouraged to start campaigning and making connections with other delegates. They were given a chance to speak to the other delegates on the bus for their 1st round of campaigning. He told us before he left he was going to run for Governor, he hit it off with his counselors immediately and all week they were positive and instrumental in his positive experience. We were told months ago that at Boy's State you get out of it what you put in. He worked hard, wrote speeches, and different versions of speeches, campaigned, made new friends, connected with his counselors and slept very little. His final speech in the push for Governor had a little humor in it. He was elected Governor and was selected to attend Boy's Nation with his Attorney General. From what I can gather the public speaking opportunities and the counselors were huge takeaways for him. We hadn't even gotten home yet when one of his counselors called him and asked him to speak at American Legion State Convention. The opportunities that the Legion offers these young men and women are great. They covered the costs and are doing so for Boy's Nation as well. Unfortunately the numbers of boys and girls attending these are dropping, the Legion is encouraging all posts to send qualified delegates in future years. Learning about their state government and experiencing political science at work, even in a mock setting was a great experience. The local Post has continued to reach out to him and utilize him in events where they want to have him share his experiences. I am by no means posting this to brag, solely to share what his takeaways were and how great the Legion is. How well the counselors mentored and encouraged these boys makes my mom heart happy.

Here we always invite the Gov, Lt Gov and the two Senators to speak at our state convention and usually to also be counselors the following year. This year we had all four as junior counselors. We also had one soon to be USMA Doolie as well as two soon to be USAFA C4Cs

He had a great day at the convention and is looking forward to Boys Nation. Great mentorship from veterans is readily available and nice to be able to benefit from it.
