My younger son, a HS Jr, is considering the USCGA. His brother will be a third year there if he gets accepted and attends. Assuming he has the credentials to get in, does having a brother (who is doing well there) a positive thing that works in favor of the applicant or a negative thing?

I would say with relative confidence but no actual knowledge that it is a nonfactor. What I can say is there are several sets of siblings here.

I believe names are removed from applications in fact. Perhaps someone else can confirm this.

My personal opinion is that in some form a sibling or parent who has served or is currently serving must be a factor. There is a portion of each application dedicated to asking for this exact information. I remember reading somewhere that having a parent or older sibling who has served has shown to be a good predictor of motivation to be a continuing part of the military. Also, if you have grown up as a military dependent or with exposure to the military you have unique insight into whether that lifestyle is for you.
