2025 appointees have now received 4 emails in the past 4 weeks from admissions asking to fill out a google form on whether the incoming plebe has been vaccinated or not in order to determine how plebe summer will run(rom/no rom, etc). Today, in the 4th email, there was a newly added paragraph in the chain email that reads "The numbers are currently very encouraging; 95% of Class of 2025 that have responded are reporting they will be fully vaccinated by I-Day." Sounds like very encouraging and positive news to me!

You should all respond as often as possible, to get that number to 100%. ;)

This is a joke.

Is there any possibility of a standard in-person oath ceremony on I-day, or is the drop off and virtual viewing still the likely outcome? Only asking because it seems promising that most everything else will be back to normal operation.

Purely speculating here but I think there’s a chance they’ll allow guests to the Oath of Office ceremony, given the trends in vaccination and transmission rates.

The challenge is that even with only 5% of Plebe candidates unvaccinated, that still leaves 60 who are at risk of missing training if they catch the virus. Then again, presumably these plebe candidates have been living with the family members who would hypothetically attend a public ceremony, so is there any additional risk of transmission from them being there, probably not. Graduation seems to have gone over really well, but the difference is that on the off-chance someone caught covid there, they wouldn’t have been absent from any training. This is just me trying to get inside leadership’s head, I really have no idea what they’re thinking. I would love it if my incoming Plebes and their loved ones were able to share that last goodbye together, it’s definitely very beneficial for morale.

The good news is that even if guests aren’t allowed, the plebes are coming and will be ready to go and get the excellent training they need—-in a traditional plebe summer. That’s huge compared to last year.
While I will always miss the in person component for our 24, we survived and the plebe year finally ended.
That 95% figure is awesome.

Having had the full I-Day experience with our 23 and a Plebe To Be 25, I will trade our I-Day fun for him to have a full (and as normal as possible) Plebe Summer experience. Lucky to have seen it before, sorry for those parents that lost out last year. And our future Plebe is now fully vaccinated.

Agree, the training, team-building, discipline etc opportunities gained with no ROM are of greater importance compared to the parents' I-Day experience (although if the latter occurs that will also be awesome and good for morale).

I should also say sorry for the parents that will miss out on the experience this year. What a tough run for all involved over the past 15 months (USNA related). Hoping that 23/24's are able to square, build and grow from the hardship because it was hard. That being said, they could find themselves in much tougher situations. Good on everyone that provided support and suffered along side. Still, it's a special place, preparing special people to lead other special people in difficult times.

These are great numbers! Glad to see it. Be great if the oath could be observed. Even better if the new Plebes in their state or shock get time to say farewell, but understand that safety and training take priority.

As non- military parents, I-Day was everything it was built up to be (for us). We would have been just fine without it but there is a feeling in a father’s chest (and a lump in the throat) that just cannot be put into words when those big, bronze doors close. I wish that for the ‘25 parents and sorry ‘24 couldn’t.

Pretty cool. I think most Dants go out as O-6.
Congratulations Rear Admiral (lower half) "TR" Buchanan (USNA '92).

Here's a link to the new Dant:

It hasn’t been all that uncommon for them the pick up a star while serving as Dant before returning to the fleet. I would say that has been more common in the last 2 decades or so.

There was supposed to be a plebe summer briefing tonight for ‘25 but it has been rescheduled back to June 14th. Email reads:
“Leadership is reviewing our current plan for I-day and in order to provide the most up to date information for parents and candidates, we are postponing tonight's event to next Monday, June 14th at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time.”
There has been discussion about if they may mean a “normal I-Day” or just one I-Day but also how this will impact all those who have already made travel plans.

Where did you get the info for the Plebe Summer Briefing? How can you access it on 6/14? Thank you very much!

Vaccination emails and the plebe summer briefing emails have been being sent to the email I’ve used for the application process. There will be an email sent with the link the day of the briefing, should be a personal link to log in to the chat it says.
