C/O 2026! A Farewell of Sorts...

I need some opinions/advice:

As I search for what I qualify for my MOS for USMC...

4 things stand out to me right now, and I would like some opinions on which one would be best for me; I sort of would like to stay away from the dangerous stuff, hence when I reapply to USNA, I don't want to risk getting injured.

My 4 are as follows:

- Logistics

- Embassy Security Guard

- Combat Engineering

- Aviation Technician

Any thoughts/insights would be appreciated.

Thank you!
"Stay away from the dangerous stuff" is not consistent with any USMC MOS.

Physical Injuries can occur in training as well as combat. Hearing loss is an occupational hazard. Many serious injuries can happen on the ground, airfield, motor pool, or just about anywhere else.

Note: Marine Security Guards is a very small community within the USMC. It is tough and difficult. It used to be open to E3 and above - not sure what today's standards are. They used to all start out as Infantry but that too may have changed.

I would suggest picking an MOS that interests you. Any MOS is cool if it’s important to you. If you do what you like it will be easier to learn. Oh and here is a bit of advise, get after it and don’t worry about getting hurt THAT is a sure fire way to get hurt. I’d live in the moment for the time being, you have at least a year from ship date before you may settle in enough to worry about USNA. I know it’s probably not what you want hear but I’m just being honest.

I don’t think the MOS you pick will make much of difference with getting into a SA. They will likely be interested in your proficiency and conduct marks as well as PFTs.

I totally understand that, and I appreciate the feedback as well. I was just curious. After watching a lot of different videos, I think that I may be pursuing Logistics. I just like the whole idea of "working behind the scenes" and getting everything ready for a specific mission.

@MichaelT2022, you are taking up the profession of arms. It is inherently dangerous. There is no longer any real distinction between front lines and rear lines. And remember the very crux of your chosen branch: Every Marine a rifleman.

As any competitive athlete will tell you, the surest way to get injured in sports is by trying not to get hurt. Sounds counterintuitive, but it’s true. Go into this with an “offensive” mindset — attack it with all you’ve got. Avoid a “defensive” mindset of doing just enough to get in. It likely won’t achieve your goal.
