I understand that cadets receive stipends while on an ROTC scholarship that increases every year; I was wondering if you are paid for all twelve months, or just the academic year?

My DS was paid for NROTC OCS this past summer. I believe since he did recieve funds. If this is taxable, why did he not receive a W-2? He hasn't done his taxes yet.

I'm not sure about this. My DD got a W2 for her NROTC cruise last summer.

For AROTC, you are paid during the academic year until the summer after your junior year. Then, your stipend continues into the summer. The stipend is not taxable and you will not receive a W2.

A few caveats/answers to other issues raised in this thread:
You will be paid for summer training. This pay is taxable and you will be mailed a W2 unless you turned off your paper copy W2 in mypay. In this case, you have to log in and print it out.

You will receive your stipend during the whole summer after your junior year, but since you aren't receive the stipend and summer training pay simultaneously, the army will take the stipend money back out of your account for the period of time during which you were at training.

In AFROTC you are paid over the summer. I've only had experience with it as a POC member so it may vary.

Sled, unless something has changed for AFROTC, you will not get paid over the summer as a GMC, but will pay year round starting your POC year.
~ Note, 4 yr recipients will typically do summer tour their rising 200 year, and all cadets will do SFT summer of their rising 300 yr. thus, it does seem like it is year round, but it isn't. Just like NROTC and AROTC those assignments are taxable since it is not a stipend.
