I was wondering, do cadets live in the same dorms as the other students, or do they have different rooms?

Yes, unless you attend a Senior military college with a civilian population.
Some colleges have "specialty" housing and sometimes ROTC cadets will live together there, but it would be voluntary.

Of the five NROTC schools that my son visited, only one had cadets rooming together

Best of luck!

In my son's school, they do their best to room the midshipmen together in the freshman year, especially since this school gives a room and board scholarship to those on ROTC scholarships.

It does depend on the school. At UMD, DS is dormed with other students in the Scholars program. He is the only ROTC student on his floor (gets ribbed every Thursday morning as he returns back from PT at 7 a.m and all of the others are just waking up)

Many of the ROTC students bond during their fresh/soph yr and elect to dorm together later on. Bullet did that decades ago when he moved off campus as a jr. he moved in with other ROTC cadets that were Arnie Air members.
