Cadre Taking Questions

BCT was different for 2017. Their class had the highest retention rate in many years. Your BCT commander made it a point that this will not be the same. BCT will be more physically intense and you will have less breaks than 2017 did. You should be proud of this.[/QUOTE

While 2017 may have had a less intense basic training it really was not their decision.

I hope no 2018ers feel entitled because they happened to have a harder BCT. It really shouldn't work that way. As stated in another thread, training is a pendulum and it just so happens that it has swung the other way.

If cadets are stronger in one area over the other, which do you think is valued more/worked more at BCT, core or upper body strength? I play baseball and work legs and core much more than upper body because of my shoulder and my pushups/pullups are not where I would want them to be for BCT compared to running and such. Any tips?

PHP:

I would say cardio and upper body mostly pushups.

What are the seven basic responses in order? Several of us have been concerned that the order may change.
Thanks in advance!

Yes Sir
No Sir
No excuse sir
Sir may I ask a question
Sir may I make a statement
Sir I do not understand
Sir I do not know

Good to know. I suppose I can expect to talk a bit differently to you next month. Thanks for giving us the chance to ask questions, this thread has already been put up on the class of 2018 fb page and appointees seem to be liking it.

Just FYI be careful what you post on those pages in past years cadets have said said some distasteful things and come to regret them during BCT

What exactly should I be expecting when it comes to putting my hair up (when they decide if it needs to be cut or not)?

That decision is made early-on on I-day, when the males are getting their hair cut for the first time. It's not too stressful by itself, the only people who I know got their hair cut either asked for it, or it physically could not be put into regs, (3 inch bulk all around). The female cadre working the hair station know you're stressed and nervous so it was a pretty relaxed environment, that being said don't plan on taking any more than 30 seconds--you'll appreciate being able to do it quickly in the mornings :thumb:

How does one not make it through basic? Like when a certain amount of cadets "drop out" is it of their own choosing? Or can you get kicked out for not meeting a certain requirement?

Medical turn back, quitting, and a poor attitude are the top 3 reasons why basics don't make it.

Thank you! I'll be sure to practice, but this is nice to know

Absolutely, it becomes a habit in no time. If you have any other specific questions about being a girl in basic or at USAFA in general feel free to ask me!

Quick question about compression shorts - I've seen white, black, any conservative color, small logos okay, no logos, no way. What's cadre's take on what is ok?

Thanks!

Good luck!

So, Klepto16, why are you helping? You must be a friend.

I've never been told that I'm not allowed to wear logos this is the reg but it doesn't specify.

7.1.5.2. PTU/IPTU shorts (with reflective material) and optional IPTU running shorts
(without reflective material). The PTU/IPTU shorts waistband will rest at or within two
inches of the natural waistline. The lining in the PTU/IPTU shorts may be removed.
Short, mid and full length solid black or dark blue form fitting sportswear (i.e. spandex
lycra or elastic) may be worn and visible under both the PTU/IPTU and optional IPTU
running shorts.

for 2017 we didn't get any airmanship opportunities during BCT because of the budget cuts.

So black or dark blue? At the tour they said white or black only

Compression Shorts

So long as the shorts are conservative it shouldn't matter (Close to black or white, just not something like red or green). Just make sure they don't extend beyond your shorts. Some cadre have been know to yell about this. Even that for the most part won't be a problem though.
