Can you apply to other colleges from NAPS?

Good afternoon,

I was wondering if you are attending Naval Academy Prep School, is it possible to apply to other Universities and Service Academies? Or are you strictly permitted to apply to USNA?

Thank you!

The point of NAPS is singular and clear: to prepare you for USNA. If you’re not interested in attending USNA — preferring other colleges instead — then you have no business at NAPS. (Unless you’re thinking that you might eventually change your mind or possibly wash out. But that’s something to worry about if/when the time comes.)

Based on your post history, I know you’re relatively new on SAF and awaiting a decision from USNA. Do you fully understand what you’ve applied for and the possible outcomes? If not, I strongly suggest you revisit USNA’s website — every page, link, tab and pull-down.

This is the mission of NAPS:
NAPS mission is to enhance midshipman candidates' moral, mental, and physical foundations to prepare them for success at the U.S. Naval Academy. The Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) is located on Naval Station Newport in historic Newport, Rhode Island.

It is also a substantial gift of free advanced preparatory training and education, room, board, health and dental care, plus salary and status as an enlisted member, which gives you pretty much a guaranteed nomination. Technically, yes, I think you can decide to quit and go elsewhere without obligation or penalty. Ethically, it smells like dog poop on hot concrete, if that’s the intent on going in. Picture yourself explaining in interviews for other SAs and in nom Interviews how you felt this was the right thing to do.

Not sure, either, if any of the classes will transfer to another institution. Why go, if you aren’t intending to continue through to USNA?

I probably should have mentioned that this is a hypothetical question and that I am in no way intending to take this course of action if I get accepted to NAPS. I have already been accepted to VMI with an NROTC scholarship and I am fully aware of the challenges and responsibilities that come with service. USNA has been my dream school for years and I have no desire to back down.
This was a big “what if” question for those who may get medically disqualified while attending NAPS or those who go to NAPS and still don’t get in (which I know is virtually impossible).

Yes you can apply to other colleges while at naps. Usually this would be done by those that find they hate naps or the military and do not want to attend a SA even if they pass naps.

Not sure how you could apply to USMA while attending naps but it’s been done before.

USMC ENLISTED——Naps——USMA——-USMC and the MoH

Lt Frank Reasoner USMC

And if you get medically DQd while at naps———a civilian college is likely in your future.

IF you pass naps and are medically ok as almost are all you will get in the USNA——-if you still want to,
