Candidate Visit Day

Did everyone who got an invitation submit their full application first? Because this all seems incredibly random.

I am done with everything except for my BGO interview and CFA. My name was sent to DoDMERB by USNA the same day I was offered a CVW and I am just waiting for the results back now.

Ok thanks. You can submit the application before taking the CFA, right?

Yeah I submitted all the emails personal statement and everything back in July

CVW invites are incredibly random. My son received one his junior year, so no application was on file at all. Please, please don't read anything into not receiving one. Admissions pulls certain factors in extending CVWs, and those factors are unknown to us. Your goal is appointment, not a CVW invite.
So, dont read anything into an invite, or not. And if you are needing a visit to help you decide, reach out to your BGO or Admissions. There will be people who attended, who are not offered an appointment. There will be hundreds of people who didn’t attend, and receive an offer of appointment.
A CVW is a tool for candidates to help them decide if USNA is where they can see themselves. If it’s for them. It’s not a tool that USNA uses to offer appointments.

Lots of threads and discussion about this every year. Drop it in the search box, and read away!!
This times 1,000! It bears repeating - your goal is not a CVW invite, or LOA, your goal is appointment, which may not come until next April or May.

Also, they way CV’s are done from year to year can change…..just BC they had certain criteria last year, doesn’t mean they do this year. Case in point, DoDMERB has morphed from years prior. Very likely CV’s have as well. Just BC it was done one way before, doesn’t mean it’s the same this year.

Can I ask where your SAT, ACT, your home state and GPA are for the folks that were invited to overnight visits?
Thanks in advance
I had a similar SAT equivalent score, and I'm in VA. The emails may have been random this year, or maybe they haven't received something for your application (the system has been so backed up). But also don't forget to check your spam!

Is anyone going Oct. 7-9? I will be there for that session. Also to anyone that was been to CVW, what was your experience like and what should us candidates who are going in the near future should expect?

I'll be there!

Not a candidate, of a Mid who has hosted them. CVW’s didn’t happen last year, and I don’t believe that they have held their first ones this year, so your responses may be limited. But if you search about CVW in the search bar here, you will get to a ton of discussion about them. Assuming they are the same as in years past.

If like years past (which is expected), you will be shadowing a Mid, to classes and everything that they do. Bring PT gear, a good attitude, and be open to it all. Ask your questions. It’s a great opportunity to experience what life as a Midshipman on the Yard is like.

Have FUN!!

Candidate visits started a few weeks ago my son saw some in his company. So glad they are doing them. Disappointing they were canceled last year due to COVID.

CVW is a great opportunity to see what daily life in the brigade is like. You will have the opportunity to do a morning workout, go to plebe classes, and maybe even get to experience an extracurricular here on the yard.

Take the time to ask questions about plebe summer or the academic year because you are shadowing a plebe who has experienced those things. Do not be afraid to talk to people and ask lots of questions, you are there to learn more about the academy.

Someone in my Summer Seminar group went the weekend of 9/11, I think that might have been the first one. From what I heard from my NASS peer, it is exactly as you described. He did mention though that you didn’t really workout besides the 9/11 stair climb he did which I thought was kind of odd. I was also invited to go the weekend of September 23rd, but chose to go later because it was so early, one week from my invitation. I will be going November 18th.

I suspect the answer is no, but should I bring my ROTC PT gear for CVW?

Be neutral. Whether JROTC or ROTC, you will not be visiting an ROTC unit. Let anything to do with that come up in normal conversation.

The same with letter jackets or “I’ve-been-there” t-shirts (Boys’/Girls’ State, Governors’ Honors, etc.). Midshipmen and cadets have been there, done that. You’re there to act professionally and make like a sponge.

I figured as much, but thanks for the clarification!
