Hi everyone,
I applied to Summer Seminar maybe a week ago and today they offered me an invitation to Candidate Visit Weekend. Does this mean anything regarding my Summer Seminar application?
I’ve hear a lot of conflicting things on this. Was told if you were selected for SS, you would not receive a cvw. My son went to Summer of 2022 then received a cvw for fall 2022. We had to cancel his fall cvw 2x due to soccer state tournament and then Senator interview. So then he recently received a cvw for spring of 2023.. whatever the case, visit as much as possible to ensure your DD/S feels it’s a good fit..

My son received a CVW invite about a month ago (attending this week: 3/2 - 3/4) and yesterday received acceptance to Summer Seminar session #1.

Thank you for the advice. Your instincts are right, my questions are more my own anxiety and dealing with the uncertainty of this next year (or more) than about him finding his own way. Truth be told, I have never taken an Uber or Lyft. Mentioning to close friends that your high school student will be traveling alone to a "Big City" airport where they will catch their own ride has a way of making you feel like a neglectful parent. 😒. Many of them have college kids that come home at least once a month. N*ot College is unimaginable.

DS is my youngest by 13 years. It didn't seem as hard to let go with my DDs but DS resolve to be a part of the USN and willingness to not only commitment years of service but also willingness to give his life when he has so many other college opportunities available to him drives me to be as prepared as I can for the things I still can control.

I can't imagine the desire to prepare and protect your child gets any easier "if" accepted. Pride, worry, happiness, sadness fear... you must experience all the emotions knowing your DS is just over a year from commissioning. Thank you for your time, always helping to answer my questions on this forum and for looking past my grammar errors. (I just reread OP and my use of their/there *embarrassed - any way to edit?)

I appreciate and welcome future advice or antidotes. (unless r/o USNA following CVW but I have a feeling that isn't going to happen)
Your very honest post is heart-felt and appreciated. Thank you

@NomSeeker Thanks for the advice. Heading up to Annapolis this week for my CVW and got my acceptance for Summer Seminar on Friday.

FYI - We (son and parent separately) received a text message this morning about this week‘s CVW. If today’s timing is an indication, you should expect a text message roughly 48 hours before your scheduled CVW.

Yup, as did I this morning.

Yes, received the text this morning!

May I inquire what the text said?
I attached a screen shot below. My DS and I both received the text this morning.

thank you
Yes, nothing really new in the text, the links just take you to the CVW information page that you could've gotten to when invited initially. I didn't realize you can click on the map to show where Gate 6 is and the driving pattern from there to Mitscher, but otherwise no new or novel information. Weather doesn't look great Friday but after me and the DW drop off the DS, just getting a day and a half without kids is looking great. Plus the text gave us a 20% off coupon at the gift shop!

My DD wanted to be a Military Nurse and was looking at USAFA and USMA when she received an unsolicited CVW from the USNA. My DD and I went out to Annapolis for the weekend and it was EXCELLENT! While there my DD talked with someone (Capt./Counselor?) who genuinely took the time to discuss her goals and recommended she bypass the Academy and apply for a Nursing ROTC Scholarship as her chances for a Nurse would be much higher. My DD struggled as she loved the CVW experience and what the Academy could offer, however, after some soul searching decided to apply to ROTC Nursing. Fast forward, now she is in her third year of Army ROTC (Awarded ARMY Nursing Scholarship) and is heading to Advance Camp and Nursing Summer Training Program before she starts her senior year. As a parent, I was thoroughly impressed with all three Academies, especially the Navy.

If you can make it to CVW it is well worth the trip!

My DS is attending CVW the end of April. Would love to hear any suggestions/feedback from those who attended this past weekend.

Definitely a fun experience for me and I’m grateful that I went up. I would suggest that your son gets to know his plebe and ask him any questions he has about the academy. Super lucky that I got some great plebes as my roommates and definitely grateful to meet them.

When I was up there this weekend, there were drags that would immediately go to their cot and use their phone until they went to sleep at night. On the other hand I would have conversations with my plebe until 12:00 AM and they were usually funny and informative.

Also, they offer optional CFAs for Candidates now so if your son wants to do his CFA at the CVW he is welcomed to.

With regard to CFA, we’ve seen reports here they are not offered for all CVWs, depending on time of year. The candidate should check with Admissions.

Going into CVW I believed that they only offered the CFA in the Fall, but they were offering CFA’s to Juniors this weekend.
