Our DS calls home from WP as much as possible from his cell phone (Verizon), but the connection is always terrible, regardless of where he calls from. Would gladly switch to another service if we thought it would improve.

For those who have service with Verizon, does anyone have any feedback about same?

For those on other services, would appreciate any feedback as well

It’s gotten to the point where a reasonable conversation is simply impossible due to dead air, breaking up and drops. To much of the precious time we have on the phone is spent repeating, “we can’t hear you”, “are you there?”, “can you say that again?”

Thanks in advance for opinions and experiences

We have ATT, and have never had any connection issues, in DD's 3+ years at WP. Of course, it is a small sample, cuz her calls are increasingly rare!

Have had a cadet using AT&T at USMA since 2012...great connectivity.

We use Verizon and have never had any problems. We usually FaceTime though so maybe that's the difference.

In the very rare location where Verizon service is poor, AT&T seems to have it covered. Rather than switch the family, try buying him an AT&T burner phone at Walgreens, or wherever, with a $20 prepaid card, and see if that fixes it.

Is WiFi coverage good? Try using WiFi Data instead of the Cellular network to make calls. Signal, WhatsApp, Skype and Google Duo are great apps that you both install and you can make Voice-only calls or Video Chat (plus Messaging) with amazing clarity (in most cases) for free. These apps work across Android and iOS (maybe your Cadet has an iPhone and you have Android... No problem). Or you can pay about $30/year and use Skype or Google Voice to make unlimited calls to US cell phones or land lines / and receive calls for Free. I find these are all great options to keep in touch with family and friends in the US and around the world. All of these apps work over WiFi and cellular.

Verizon at USMA for 3 plus years. Normally no issues. An occasional hiccup but that will happen. We have used Motorola phones the entire time.

Thanks to each and everyone for your input. While clearly there isn’t a consensus that I had hoped for, it still offers some guidance. Thank you all very much

We have AT&T and the reception can be spotty. It also depends on where I am when my cadet calls.

Verizon is the best here. All services are spotty in garrison (the academic, barracks area) but out at Buckner Verizon is often the only one that works.

When your cadet changes rooms, then you may find that he will have better service. All that granite up at WP interferes with cell service. My kid had T-Mobile (because we were paying) and we mostly messaged with him. It was fine. No one cell service works everywhere at WP but the overall consensus is that most do best with Verizon. Use what fits your family/your budget best.
