Personally, I preferred the grenade approach to the basketball throw. When DS and I were practicing, I was routinely getting 75 feet as a 49 year old dad in fairly good shape, with small hands.
DS has much bigger hands and did it the baseball method (73’). He tried the grenade method and got about the same results.
But give the grenade method a try, cupping the ball with your wrist, especially if you have small hands.
 
Other than using your core and twisting your trunk, the other key to the basketball throw is to use a fairly new ball with a good and sticky grip. Amazing how much of a difference it can make.

My DS was provided the ball by the field force reps at the site. It was not a "BYOB" scenario for us.
