I did my CFA this afternoon, and I am super nervous about my pull-up score. I do cross country and track, and I go backpacking often with the boy scouts, so I did very well on the shuttle run and the mile, but I did poorly on the Pull-Ups. Did I pass?

BB-Throw: 64 Ft
Pull-Ups: 3
Shuttle Run- 7.9
Sit-Ups: 91
Push-Ups: 54
Mile run: 5:05.8

I am a very academically strong student: 4.6 weighted GPA, 32 ACT, and top 5% of my class (biggest high school in the state with a senior class of 1000+), and I have impressive leadership qualifications: leading a team on a 3 week service trip to kenya with Rotary International, Eagle scout, taught the highest leadership course in scouting in WV (twice), President of Arizona venturing, etc.

So, as you might see, the real thing I am lacking in is the CFA pullup score. Will I be unable to be physically qualified? If i'm not, can I get a waiver from the regional director? Thanks.

Same boat as you, except I don’t know if my flexed arm hang is long enough. There’s no way to find a minimum because no one will tell you. Just hope and wait. It’s too late at this point to actually do much about it.

If you already submitted your scores, I recommend that you check your portal. If it does not have a green check for CFA (physical) then you may want to submit them again before 2/28/19. I would hope your regional commander would have contacted you if they were not within a passing range or you likely would have received a notification from admissions. If you are appointed I strongly recommend working on improving your pull-ups before R-day. You will have to take the CFA again at Beast and it will be a lot more pressure. Good Luck!

Sorry, I just realized that you just completed the test. Submit your scores and you may want to contact your regional commander. They can recommend a re-test if needed. My DS had to resubmit the pull up video 2 or 3 times on the advice of his regional commander to make sure it was good form.

I thought the green check mark just meant it had been received. Does it necessarily mean the candidate passed? That's not how I read the legend, but it would be great it this is true because DS has been anxiously waiting to know if he passed.

If you are male and get in, they send you a letter telling you that you need to do 6 pull ups on R day or be subject to termination. When you do them you are expected to go from a hanging position and pull yourself completely up until you touch your collar bone. Then you go down fully and repeat the exercise. They will not count any that are not prefect. If you are a female I think you do not have to do any. You do the arm hang.

You are good, the min is a 3 and all other events seems very competitive to me so the overall score wouldnt be an issue

Actually min requirement for a female is the flexed arm hang. Even one pull up is better, so no matter what you qualified with you should continue to try and improve that. They will send you a letter before beast that says your cfa pull up and that they expect at least that or better on rday.

SFRanger:
Do you know if they have in fact begun to separate candidates on R Day over this? My 2020 said he witnessed more than one male unable to execute even one strict pull-up... and to his knowledge none of them were turned away. But that’s 3 years ago now.

The instructions for appointees says "When reporting on R-Day, you will be tested and required to meet the physical standard for pull-ups. Failure to meet minimum physical standards may result in denied entry and dismissal". With that in mind, I wouldn't risk not meeting the standards - 6 pull-ups for men and 2 pull-ups for women.

Just to reiterate what DDmom wrote and make sure it is not lost in the replies. One pull up is better than the flexed arm hang.
Also, if time permits, the CFA is something you can control and change in a short period rather than leaving points on the table. There are threads here and elsewhere on how to improve a CFA score in a short period of time.
