75 is max for push-ups, not 60.

Could anybody take a guess at whether these scores would be a pass or a fail?

69 ft bball throw
13 pullups
8. something shuttle
58 pushups
8:20 mile (I know, its awful)

I took the test a couple weeks back and my mile was not nearly as good as I had hoped. If I took it today I would probably run a 7 minute. I've called the admissions office, unable to get through to a human. I also emailed my RD, who didn't give me a straight pass fail answer; he just recommended that I "do my best". I'm not sure if he even looked at the scores.

After I emailed the RD he sent a new email to the official I had administer the test and I will of course retake it if necessary, but with a principal nomination, I would like to know whether I passed or failed. What do you think.

^What was your score for sit-ups? If you drop the mile down to 7 or faster you would probably pass.

Please note that USNA does not publish "passing" scores. Several years ago, they published "average" scores and those are in a sticky above. Based on those, a male can probably "pass" with a time of more than 7:00 in the mile. How much slower is the question.

Of course, you should always strive to do your very best.

If you read earlier in the thread, a male posted that he passed his CFA with a mile run time of 8:45, so it is indeed possible for you to pass with a 7 minute mile.

usna1985,

I'm familiar with the average scores, and as I stated I already got the "do your best" answer from my RD, and I fully understand that. As I said though, I have a principal nomination, so I'm looking to find out whether my scores are disqualifying or not. Could you share your insight into whether an 8:20 mile would be disqualifying (when paired with average or above average scores on all the other tests)?

Don't know -- seriously. I would contact your RD.

I will say that, if you're running an 8:20 now and are female, you have a lot of work to do. I say that b/c I was in that situation (a female running about an 8:00 mile) and struggled in the runs during plebe summer. If you're a male, you have a ton of work to do.

Females should be able to run a single mile in 7:00 and males in 6:00 to be in good shape for plebe summer. You should be able to maintain at least an 8:00 pace (females)/7:00 (males) over several miles. There is plenty of time to improve and that will be time well spent.

You do NOT want to lag in the runs -- trust me on this.

Thanks. I'm a male and I'm not running an 8:20 mile now, I just did on the day of the test due to not feeling well. If I took the test again today I'd get under 7.
Oh well, I haven't had luck asking my RD but my BGO will be checking for me sometime this week. Thanks for all the advice.

If you can retake it today and get a sub 7:00, I'd retake the test. That is, if I were you. Being blunt, USNA doesn't care whether you felt good the day of the test -- they care about your score. A 7:00 looks a lot better than an 8:20, even if the 8:20 is passing. But, if you already have an LOA or are scholastically qualified, you're ok even if the score isn't great.

I'm a principal nominee which is why I would be fine with just passing.

Will these scores help me?

Basketball Throw- 84
Shuttle Run- 8.4
Pull-ups- 9
Sit-ups- 78
Push-ups- 60
Mile Run- 6:40

Would it be helpful if I took the CFA a second time?
Could these scores help my application?

^^ If you could run the mile 30 seconds faster or do ten more pushups or something, then I'd say retake it. In other words, if you can make significant improvements, then yes, it might be helpful. If not, you probably shouldn't waste your time. Your scores are definitely qualifying, even if you could stand to do a few more pull ups or sit ups.

Btw, I just wanted to let USNA1985 and the other people I was pestering for advice on here that it turns out my CFA is qualifying. Thanks again everybody for your insight. Now my file is complete, and all I can do is sit anxiously and await results.
