Is the CFA pass / fail or is there an advantage to redoing after showing qualified (more points = higher score)? USAFA is just pass/fail. DS has green qualified on his portal from NASS. Also, does USAFA and USNA use the same pass / fail standards?

CFA is pass/fail. If it's green on his portal, he should start working on other parts of his application. I see no advantage in redoing the CFA. Don't plow the same ground. He should apply to all nomination sources elligible. Keep him moving forward. Good luck.

I’m hearing a pass for session 2 from my DD, she’s anxious for it to populate in the portal. At the parent meeting admissions counselors suggested training for the highest score possible but also noted candidate picks don‘t come down to the precise number of push-ups on a CFA.

In the words of Hawkeye Pierce: "If the minimum weren't good enough, it wouldn't be the minimum."

In all seriousness, if you are a varsity athlete (or non-school sport equivalent), passing is going to be fine. If you are not active in athletics for whatever reason -- or your only sport is something such as martial arts, sailing, fencing, pistol / rifle, archery, etc. -- USNA will likely look much more closely at your CFA. They want to make sure you can handle the rigors of PS as well as stay motivated enough to pass the PRT every year.

[BTW, don't want to start a debate on how demanding the above-mentioned sports are. They are all great sports and require a high level of skill, dedication, etc. However, they generally don't routinely require the same activities as the CFA, PRT and PS (e.g., lots of running), which is what is key for SAs.]

Note: As of June 78, the record holders for the USNA Obstacle Course both male and female were Varsity (small boat) Sailors.

I will admit however that most of the team spent the winter sport season lifting and running like crazy
