The instructions for the CFA videos state "The film should begin with the candidate holding a piece of paper with their name and candidate ID number written on it. The method of ID can be a driver’s license or school ID".
So, the candidate ID number is the number that was assigned by USMA, correct? And, they also need a drivers license number on it as well? Or, is it just their driver's license number?

I always read that as the candidate is shown holding the paper with their name and USMA candidate number written/printed large enough to read easily, as well as hold up a form of ID to establish authenticity, in a close-up.

Someone here will know or your applicant can do the legwork and call Admissions to confirm.

The candidate should also review in detail the video directions. It may be useful to write it all out, like a real video production. We read anecdotes here of do-over requests because the video did not capture the required elements of the exercise from a good angle, etc. Also turn off anything on the phone that can disrupt the video, if a phone is used.

When I took the CFA with my field force representative, they had me hold up a piece of paper with the candidate number provided by USMA in one hand, and my driver's license in the other hand.

Does a passport also work? my school ID is old and I don’t have a license.
It says, “The method of ID can be a driver’s license or school ID.” You can get a new one as this new year starts can’t you? You can also ask your ffr.

One other question, is it going to be a problem that you can hear someone in the background chearing for DD to "let's go" and "keep going"?
Don’t think it is that big a deal. In DS’s video I could be heard saying “Atta boy” during pushups, and he is now in his second year at West Point. That said it is probably best not to be screaming as to be distracting, and probably best if you could take with no sound.

It has already been done and recorded. There is someone that is cheering him on in the background, so I'm hoping it is ok.

Can you have videos of pullups and push-ups from separate days or does it need to be the same day?

I always assumed it had to be the same day… otherwise it’s kind of pointless. I was also wondering how video retakes would work if this assumption was the case. They would have to redo the whole CFA wouldn’t they?

Think this through. The CFA is one complete test, with specific sequencing and timing, per the published official instruction. The individual elements test certain skills and strengths, and the overall test evaluates stamina and endurance, because each element will impact the energy available for the next. You have to train and prepare for the test in its entirety.

If you haven’t read the CFA instruction with a focus on detail, I recommend it.

I just went to USMA.edu and screenshotted part of the CFA instructions for you. Read the part they bolded.

So to be clear, my son did the CFA in full compliance with the instructions overseen by military officers at another SA. We were told that WP in particular needed videos of pullups and push-ups which he wasn't allowed to do during the CFA (he asked). When we asked WP admissions if he needed to redo the entire CFA (similar to the bold you quoted) just so he could video these two sections, we were told by an admissions officer that we did not need to redo the entire CFA, just these two sections (alrhough it won't change his official scores, they just want to do their own assessment). My question isn't in the context of the CFA since that is done already...it is about whether these videos need to be shot on the same day or not...before someone says just follow the instructions, we did at another SA and for these videos we were told by admissions he doesn't need to redo the entire CFA.

I took video during the CFA and submitted the same. My submitted video of the push-ups was rejected because they said “the angle is wrong“.

Using my iPhone, I took another video of my daughter doing push-ups while on my back deck at home. Sent it in…..no problems!
Take another video (or two), if needed and send it.

It is supposed to be taken the same day, however if only one of your videos was taken poorly they'll let you only redo that part alone. Last year I had to redo my pushup video due to me having worn a pretty baggy shirt, making it impossible for admissions to tell if I were fully extending with each rep. So I simply went into my backyard, recorded it, and submitted the new one and called it a day. Got 3q'ed shortly after.

Note to self: don’t wear baggy shirt.

The ACFT is done on the same day (2 hour time limit from start to finish). I'd assume a fitness test video should be done on the same day unless one part gets rejected.

I did it totally separate and had no problems with admissions. Not sure what is correct, though.
EDIT: I did my CFA through USAFA, though, and simply had my scores sent to USMA. Not sure if this changed anything.
