CFA Violation?

I just found out that a USMA applicant (whom I know personally) had his CFA results recently submitted (about two days ago) by a person that did NOT conduct the actual test. Should something be said?

FYI...the first CFA was conducted by a non-qualified person and was rejected. The student waited until the last moment and got his middle school teacher/family friend to do it. Middle school teachers aren't qualified either, so that teacher forwarded the results to another friend who in turn sent them in. The person whose name appears on the CFA never even met the candidate.

I know this might seem petty/inconsequential to some. But the honor code says one will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate anyone who does. To me, this seems like cheating. Thoughts?

Well, you don't know the whole story, to begin with. Maybe the person that did it was incapable of submitting, just playing devil's advocate here. As we are just people on a forum, we cannot possibly know all the details.

Second, Kharma is a witch. If this individual couldn't successfully complete the CFA and fudged the data, AND earns an appointment, it will become obvious in the first few days of plebe summer.

I agree with Dr. Mom, focus on what is within your control, act as a person with integrity who can look in the mirror and feel good about what they see.

Did they pass the CFA? the person who administrates it does not have much bearing. USMA recounts. No need to be tattle on your fellow applicants, none of your future classmates are gonna want to be alongside people who monitor others applications. Worry about yourself. You shouldn’t feel the need to report on other people to USMA.

No do not do that. You do not know the full situation, he may have received permission from USMA. Focus on your application and receiving your appointment.

Focus on your own lane. Calling this out to someone in admissions will not necessarily bring a more positive light on you as a candidate. You also do not know all of the circumstances, so it is not for you to interpret what you think you saw and report it. The honor code will catch up with people who are willing to compromise their integrity once they are living under its expectations.

Be careful what you post on a public forum. You provided a fairly accurate description of what happened, including a timeline. If this person uses SAF, it wouldn't be difficult for him to determine that you made the post, especially considering he knows you personally. It may not matter to you, but if it does, your anonymity pretty much went out the window.

This seems really minor... I hope you do not carry this kind out attitude into the Academy. I know little about USMA, but it doesn't sound like the type of thing that leads to people trusting you if you are thinking about busting them because the person who wrote down their scores wasn't proper. They did the test, USMA makes sure of that. It becomes worse when the factor is added in that there is competition between the Candidates, for obvious reasons.

Not that I have any authority, but I think you should reevaluate why you even thought this might be a reasonable course of action in the first place.

There is a line between being honorable and being a "blue falcon." I am glad you let the Academy adjudicate their case.

Do not come in here with the mindset of screwing over your buddies to get ahead. I am not saying that you are, but far too many arrive with that attitude and it does not bode well.

I think this poster is trying to determine where the line is in light of the school honor code that says: Do not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate anyone who does. I think the poster asked a fair question and then readily accepted the advice given.

To the OP - good luck at WP. My son loved it there (although he sure experienced plenty of suck) and is now a proud Old Grad.

1. Can you actually prove any of this?
2. It falls upon the person who allegedly violated the honor code to do the right thing.
3. As said before, stay in your lane. You don't want to be "that guy."

No need to answer, but did you speak to the ‘offender’ about this? Have a conversation?

I think sometimes that anymore, people are afraid, or unable, to speak to somone privately…one on one. Too quick to anonymously be a ‘right warrior’. I’m team ‘have a convo’ about an issue before you blow it up. Bc once the can of worms is opened, there isn’t any closing it. And sometimes, it’s a simple misunderstanding of the issue at had. Or lack of proper communication methods between people.

Have a convo first. Before blowing something up.

.
This person will also need to send in a video actually performing some of the CFA tasks.
They will also complete a CFA when they arrive at WP (if they’re appointed and accept).
They won’t be able to fudge those.

I believe the OP asked a fair question and received sound advice.
