CFA - West Point vs. USAFA

I am scheduled to take the CFA soon through West Point - but it will not be at an opportune time and temperature - most likely very hot and sunny. I am doing it to make sure it is administered by someone from them and also videotaped. It is also early on and will let me get it done before school starts. While I think I will get passing scores, I would like to take it again with my coach - at a cooler point in a day as I think the heat will impact my mile time. I am trying to get in the low 6 minute range. Is it ok to just use the West Point CFA for them and then use my coach for another CFA for all of the other academies? To my knowledge, West Point is the only academy that doesn't let you use a coach and requires a video. Thanks for any input or insight!

I can't speak for USNA, but USAFA won't care. You'll be told to schedule your CFA and the candidate handbook will tell you who is eligible to administer it. You'll give their email to USAFA via your portal and they'll receive a link to the CFA where they get all the information, rules, etc. And they have a link to upload your scores.

Take it. If your USMA one is better, submit it; if not, submit your USAFA one.

Thank you!

One other point for you: I tell all of my students that the CFA is a 'beginning' not an end. You should commit to your 'best fitness' as a military officer candidate. Your workout routines should be 'routine' and continue throughout the school year and summer as you prepare to arrive at the Academy, or on the college campus, ready to meet the fitness requirements for either program, USAFA or ROTC. Good luck!

You can use your West Point CFA for your USAFA one as well, just so you know. There's no need to retake the test again for USAFA.

The CFA is a “green check” in the portal not a range. It isn’t that tough for a standard, healthy 17 year old, hot or otherwise. Great to get it done now, something always comes up “later”

My kid did his AFROTC test proctored by my wife in Iceland last week. Just a bit cooler than Phoenix this time of the year!

My advice:
Move to Plan B. Life is full of more Plan Bs than Plan As.
Plan A is you, conditions, and everything else is ideal.
Plan B is everthing else.
If you are a leader, have mental and physical toughness to be chosen for an SA, you will thrive in any Plan B, C, or D.

Gut it out and not only pass, do well. You have the physical ability, if not ideal preparation. You already know weather isn't going to be ideal cup of tea. So what. You probably will have eaten a squre meal the night before and slept in a bed. Maybe even air conditioning. You are tough! You can do it! Are you the type of person that will deliver, spectacularly, as-expected under pressure, nonideal situations, emergency unexpected situations? In times of conflict? Defend your country and do what others cannot? Then you can gut it out at USMA's 3rd session CFA. PS - tell your coach instead of taking the time to administer the CFA, he can begin working on your letter of recommendations.
