My DS just took his CFA today. How long does it typically see if he passed or failed? We are thinking he may have to retake it because he could only do 1 pull up. We just want to know how quickly we will know since we are so close to the deadline

Typically it will only take a couple of days to hear a reply. But since he was only able to do 1 pull up, he will most likely not pass, and will have to redo the CFA.

If it takes more than a week, I would recommend emailing your regional Admissions Officer. When I did my first one in the summer, it updated pretty quickly to "Not Qualified," which terrified me. I emailed my Admissions Officer, and he told me it was an error which he corrected, and it now reads "Qualified".

I don't want to get your hopes up though; he'll probably need to take it again and he certainly needs to train pull-ups. If you have access to one, try using an assisted pull-up machine or a lat-pulldown machine at a gym. Or, do an assisted pull-up with a strong resistance band or a chair.

I suggest the OP assume that 1 pull-up will be a fail and work like mad to improve in the next 22 days. This is one reason why candidates should do their first CFA WELL BEFORE January (unless a medical condition prevents it). If it turns out DS passed, the effort expended to improve won't be "wasted," as improving upper body strength is always a good thing!

There is no guarantee of a second attempt. It is at the discretion of admissions.

Google Stew Smith Pullups Zero to Hero. He got me through USNA when he was a Company Officer. Biggest hurdle is the first pull-up.

For class of 2028 - target your CFA completion at least 2 months before it’s due. Injury, illness, sudden non-availability of venue or proctor, bad weather, family emergencies - any of these can derail a plan left up the last minute. If you can get it done over the summer, that is one less thing to spend time on while you are juggling senior year and your usual activities, multiple nomination applications, SA, NROTC, college applications, standardized tests, medical exams.

SAs may or may not grant a re-take, especially this late.

Develop a strategy, a plan, a timeline, and execute. Take inventory CFAs along the way to determine your weaknesses when performing the test as prescribed. Research the numerous YouTube videos and website resources (Stew Smith!) to improve technique and target workouts.

If you thoughtfully plan your CFA attack and commit to excellence, your final results will not surprise you in a bad way.

Do. Not. Procrastinate.

He got his results today and qualified. Now we just wait and see.
Congratulations on his qualification! Can I confirm that he passed the CFA with just 1 pull up? My DS can only do 4 pull-ups and he's waiting to last minute to take CFA until he can max his ability in that event. However, if your DS passed with just 1 pull up then maybe he should just put ins best effort and see how it goes.
Thank you and best of luck going forward for your DS.

Pretty sure he will have to retake…hit the gym, and fast. Good luck.

Am I the only one absolutely shocked 1 pullup would result in a pass? Prior to this post, I would have been under the assumption this would definitely result in a fail.

I think it is important for readers not to assume that one pull-up will be a pass for them in future.

Whatever the secret formula is - we don’t know how other factors are counted.

Yes he passed. Even though it qualified. It still may be enough so like others have said keep working.
His other events likely saved him because he was close to max on other events.

Congratulations! I would definitely recommend a little more practice if he plans to be a plebe this upcoming summer.
