I was wondering if anyone can tell me about the cga banking programs. I know there is a white card for buying things but I dont know anything about the rest of the program. if anyone could elaborate that would be great. thanks

Every cadet gets an account a Navy Federal Credit Union. There is a branch at the Exchange, on the Academy grounds. Cadet pay is deposited there.

Yes NFCU, they have also recently opened their doors to all branches of the miltary so no longer are they limited .... and they are opening branches everywhere! www.navyfcu.org

For the record a good number of cadets also show up with some other kind of account as well. For example, I have a USAA account+card from home and I use the ATM at the exchange whenever I need money from that.

I thought that 4/c were not allowed to go to the base exchange? Is that only during swab summer?

That's only during swab summer (in fact, you will actually go down to either the exchange or the book store, which is essentially a mini-exchange, right before you leave for EAGLE to get sundries like soap and stuff). The exchange is actually quite nice and has some good deals pretty regularly (3 big size candy bars for $1 anyone?)

awsome! that is like the store at my skool, it is like an over glorified candy store haha:shake:

Sure would be nice to see that on the Navy Federal banners at the Pentagon.

"Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, DoD Employees" even the civilian employees are listed while Coast Guard is no where to be found.

I mentioned this at the Navy Federal booth at the Marine Corps Marathon. I mentioned that I had closed my account with them because I was unhappy that the mainstream Coast Guard had been excluded (some places, like CGA were exceptions). I was told that they had heard that many times that day. Maybe they finally changed that.

Just read their website...they haven't changed anything. CGA and a few co-located installations are available for Coast Guard personnel, but they are sure to mention DoD civilian personnel.

I used to work for Navy Fed in Okinawa.. never much paid attention to that since I worked on a Jarhead base and every marine that came in the door opened an accout.. I know it has recently changed to all services.. but do keep in mind that prior to the change Marine enlisted had to be overseas to open an account.. only Marine Zeros could open while on Conus..

I know that doesnt make you feel any better.. BUT its all I got... :) (they have a branch at KP also, but no mention of Merchant Marines either :(

The throw that DOD title out there all over...

I was married to a ZERO so we had an account before we moved overseas :) I guess complaining is a good thing..... but a petition is better..... and if my kids gets USCGA I will start it! :) but she already has her NFCU account.. :)

I do have to say over the years I still do lots of banking with them, as their rates still have proven better then any local CU, bank or USAA.
