CGA Drug Tests

I think there were some Yogurt in recent past that had a problem but I think it was corrected.

It used to be very prevalent to see Coasties fail the wiz quiz in the past. It is very seldom now but not zero. We are getting a smarter(in all areas) group of young people these days.

I have sat on 12 court martial boards; most were for drug use detected by "Golden Flow" no-notice testing.

When you sit on one of the boards, in the AF; can't speak for the other services although I would imagine them to be similar, you will sit through about a four hour long, PhD lecture on gas chromatography and mass spectroscopy. These are the tests used if someone fails the "dip test."

LOONG story short...false positives are exceedingly rare now...and the service's position, at least the AF (although if you scan through court martial minutes online...) is: use drugs, go down in flames; HARD.

If you haven't done them, DON'T; if you have, put that into a small space in your memory and NEVER go there again.

Im looking to go to the Coast Guard Academy. I have personally never done any drugs, but my friend who also is going to the CGA has somewhat recently. I was wondering what the policy is on drugs and how they test. Do they test hair or urine? What happens if they find marijuana in your hair/system?

My BF is a mid at the Naval Academy and I'm attending USCGA next year. According to him, they do it randomly. At USNA it's a urine test and I assume at other academies it would be the same. All SA's have a zero-tolerance policy. It would be unethical to allow someone to abuse illegal substances and also be apart of the fleet that is supposed to be enforcing those laws (nonetheless the CG, who is arguably the most-involved military branch in the War on Drugs!)

(nonetheless the CG, who is arguably the most-involved military branch in the War on Drugs!)

Not arguably. Is the most involved bench on the war on drugs.

I've got the book "Narconomics" sitting in front of me right now... I'm starting it tonight or tomorrow.

Guys, at least give the kid the benefit of the doubt that he's telling the truth, until you have some evidence to the contrary.

There always seems to be a great deal of, "I'm not asking for myself, but for a friend of mine" threads. Yeah......rrrrrrrright. :D

"I came here, registered for a username and asked my very first question, ever, with a follow-up, for a friend...."

Right.....

Eh. I'm just nicer than y'all.

Actually though, the way I see it, very single question asked here is for the benefit of both OP and the hundreds of lurkers that never register and ask a thing. What do those kids gain from reading a thread that bashes some unknown kid but never answers the question?

I wonder who is really helped by answering drug test questions... "Well, I guess I won't take drugs.... because I know I'll be tested" or "well, better figure out how to beat the test now."
