Navy Seal Mom, my DS is in the same boat. He was a little late to the dance applying to USNA even though his NJROTC instructor encouraged him to apply several months ago. Relying solely on an ROTC or NJROTC nom. is far from ideal since there is only one path to an appointment, from all my searches I have yet to come across anyone who is currently enrolled that entered that way. I would suggest you do a search of NJROTC on the USNA page and also the nomination page, there is some information there. If I could sum up what I've learned, NJROTC and ROTC (first year college students who would like to transfer) compete in a pool that is open for approximately 20 spots. The class portrait of 2015 shows that there were 153 appointed who had NJROTC or ROTC noms, it does not say however who entered with just an NJROTC or ROTC nom. Our MOC declined nominating our son since he already had a nomination, he applied to USNA after our Senators deadline, so all he has is the NJROTC nom. and he has applied for the vice presidential as well. Hope that helps.
