Hello, I’m a sophomore in high school and I want to know my chances at my current rate and hear suggestions or criticisms.

Freshman year:
Algebra 2 Honors
Geometry Honors
French 2 Honors
Language Arts 9 Honors
Chemistry (No honors option)
World History (opted out of honors)
Seminar
3 C’s, 5 b’s, 4 a’s. Pretty rough year for a high school start my unweighted gpa was roughly 3.0 and weighted was roughly 3.6. I forgot if seminar was an A or pass but either way i got the highest.

Sophomore year:
Career and Tech studies (no honors option)
Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps
Physics Honors
Civics Honors
English 2 Honors
Pre-calculus Honors
Advisement
7 A’s (almost all of them are high a’s my lowest is pre-calc at 93%)

Gpa Unweighted 4.0, Weighted: roughly 4.6

sports:
Swimming (3rd-5th grade recreational, 5th-9th club, 9th-present high school)

JROTC Raider team (started sophomore year)

no letters yet but I’m trying to letter in both sports for my remaining 3 years

Extra Curriculars:
Civil Air Patrol (started sophomore year)
National Honor Society (started sophomore year)
Technology Student Association (started sophomore year)
Student government (started sophomore year)

I have not done community service but I really need suggestions on good volunteer programs. As you guys see most of my motivation started this year, last year I didn’t have a goal to work towards but now this year I have been working as hard as I can.

if anybody has comments, criticism or suggestions I would encourage it.

Do you guys think that my rocky (not bad) freshman start will hold me back a lot?

Thank you.

Grades: An upward trend is good. Keep working hard on maintaining high grades. Take the most rigorous classes possible.

Volunteer work is good, but what's even more important is taking on leadership roles. CAP is an excellent avenue for that. Opportunities are available through student government and sports too.

Study hard to prepare for the SAT and ACT.

I agree with the above, stick with CAP. Rank up as quickly as you can (you can accelerate next year if you also stay in AFJROTC), and see if you can get to Mitchell by next summer. Apply for CAP scholarships, apply for summer experiences, and apply for the one Prep nomination CAP gives for USAFA Prep.
For volunteer opportunities, see if you can get some with CAP, Honor Society (tutoring) or JROTC. Start a resume, and keep track of any awards you get, volunteer hours, etc and update it regularly so you don’t forget all you are doing now. And about this time next year or Spring of your Junior year, put yourself on the interest list for Boys State and apply to Summer Seminar. Keep your grades up, test scores up, and stay in shape! It wouldn’t hurt to be familiar with medical issues that can DQ you, or require a waiver. Go on the AFA website and thoroughly understand the admissions process, and “pre apply” so you get notifications of academy admissions events near you. Aim high!

Alright, I’m going to look into all the things that you mentioned. Although does it lower my chances that I’m in army JROTC? There’s no nearby AFJROTC options for me.

Trust me... no service is going to hold you're participating in another services JROTC program against you. They will all see it as a plus to the extent that they do normally.

No, it doesn’t “hurt” you! It only matters in CAP, for Encampment credit if you do CLC instead of Encampment. If you want Encampment credit for doing CLC, it has to be an AFJROTC CLC, I think. You can still accelerate promotion, promoting every month if you have been in (any) JROTC for 2 years. Read the fine print on your Personal Cadet Tracker.
Who knows, you may even decide to apply to West Point!

No AP classes or AP tests taken? It seems to me that AP test scores were a good thing when my DS applied a couple of years ago.

All in all, I think you're on the right track. Keep at it and do your best to ace your classes. That's your only job, right now.

We never had the option of AP classes so I switched schools and I’ll be able to go onto an actual college campus for my math and science classes next semester then even more next year.
