Chatter, Congrats & Questions 2026 USCGA Appointment Thread

4/1 is about over, and DS was excited for the big day. Anyone out there have any idea why he (and others he knows) are not hearing decision today? Still trying to stay positive till otherwise informed. This is second year applying, (self-prep), and we're still waiting on USAFA (for which he's nominated).
No news is good news, right....? But prepared to prep again, MMI this time if necessary, and focus on the advantages of that path.....😁

All Regular Admission decision letters have been released, so he should contact his Admissions Officer if he didn't receive one.

For all those rejected. Self prepping is a very viable way to get there. My son got rejected in 2017 and went to MMI and received a very decent scholarship from the school. He did well with 3.8 GPA and was wait listed on his second app. There were 15 self preppers and 6 received direct appointments and four were waitlisted, 3 of the 4 were appointed from the waitlist. He was not, so he ended up a second year at Marion and was one of the first appointed his second year. He got a great education and was squared away militarily so that while many struggle with swab summer he really did not. The preparatory schools are accredited and are very reasonably priced. If appointment didn't come then he would have left with his AA degree and all his credits would transfer anywhere except the SA's.

This has always been my daughter’s plan B . She’s excited for a year at Marion.

She will be so much better off for it! The benefits are huge in so many ways. My oldest is 17 grad, appointed out of hs, and swab summer we got three letters each saying he did not think he would make it. The second class now sent us 3 or four letters all with humorous stories. She will have already worn a uniform, know military protocol, academically taught to rigorous academy classes, and probably most importantly have made friends and know 25 to 30 of her classmates on day one.

Is it appropriate to present colors at a high school graduation for someone who has accepted an appointment to the USCGA? If so, how do we go about requesting this? TIA!

Contact Admissions, as you might be able to get an admissions Partner to attend and make the presentation.

I don't know about presenting colors, but you can request that your appointment certificate be officially presented at your school's Senior Awards Ceremony. Most schools do not want to fit this into the actual graduation ceremony, although perhaps if you are at a very small school they might make an exception.

This is correct. Unless you are local to New London area it is rare to have an AO or a USCGA offical present at graduation. It is usually an Admissions partner or an active duty or reserve CG in the area. Our high school restricted senior night (because of Covid) to seniors only, and commencement to families only, but an AO was kind enough to do a video which was played at senior night. It worked out great.

Sorry, just saw this! I think you can send me one now, I just haven’t been that active on posting. 🙂
