As the title suggests... I see nearby airports in Mobile, Destin/ Valparaiso. Any tips/ tricks to share on what might be more affordable trips to the area? An an example, instead of flying in to Daytona Beach for 380.00, one can instead fly to Orlando which was often 65% or more cheaper. all ideas/ haikus welcome.

We flew into Pensacola on our last trip. At this point, we have so little time with our student naval aviator, that it's worth the expense to get the equivalent of an extra day (vs say flying into Atlanta or New Orleans).

Probably an obvious….but getting the CC of the company that you use for flights, and paying everything on it, to rack up frequent flyer points, to lessen the blow.

Or a 2nd side job. Not kidding.

If flying through Mobile, timing is everything. During the hours of 1400 to around 1630, there is a ton of traffic entering or leaving from Huntington Ingalls and Rolls Royce. If there is an accident in their harbor tunnel, it becomes a sea of tail lights.

The version of P'cola I know is 25 years old, but you really need to be there for while to experience and eventually love it.

We lived off a single E4 salary and Chinese buffets.

Nothing like going south to the beaches. Heading east to Destin or Fort Walton. Going out to Dolphin Island. Or taking the wife to the races in Alabama on Saturday nights.

Where are you flying out of? Most flights into Pensacola connected in HOU or BNA for SWA. On occasion, SWA connects in DAL. If you fly Delta, it's almost a guarantee you'll connect in ATL. American will either have you connecting in DFW or to a lesser degree, CLT or MIA.

I was stationed in Corpus Christi and flew to visit some friends in PNS. It was a whole lot cheaper to drive to HOU and fly non-stop than fly from CRP to HOU and then HOU to PNS. So if you are in the South or on the East Coast, then driving to a feeder airport might be an option. Otherwise, you probably won't find super great rates from anywhere to the Panhandle due to market size. This is especially true when spring break is on the horizon.

My daughter flew into Destin last month to visit my son. The flight was surprisingly inexpensive from our area. Destin is only a 60 min drive to Pensacola. It worked out great.
