Son is 4 year Scholarship Army ROTC. Going through the DODMERB process and at last stage. He needs a PFT. Does this have to be by a specialist or can a general practitioner administer? Thx

Are you asking about a DoDMERB exam? Or a PFT?

A PFT normally refers to APFT which is Army Physical Fitness Test. This is done by the Army ROTC cadre.

DoDMERB exams are done by government contracted physicians and medical professionals. Your son is NOT permitted to hire his own doc.

Bronchodilator Pulmonary Function Test. To AROTC Dad: The response from the Army is 3 choices. 1. Concord-private doctors contracted by Army. Due to Covid, these guys aren't doing PFT's. 2. Use MTF(Military Treatment Facility). Have call to them now. 3. Personal Physician. Thus leading to the above initial question. Does it have to be a specialist? With the COVID, no one is answering phones. Pure E-Mail. Thanks for all input.

Thanks for the clarification.
Best of luck to you and your DS. These are difficult times to get things done. :(

Thanks AROTC-dad! I look forward to watching my son mature and grow in the Army. Just like his Grandfather.

FACT:

The preferred method is to obtain thru Civ Team on the www.dodmets website.
PFT - Pulmonary Function Test.
Board certified allergist or Pulmonologist.

Mr. Mullen. The problem we are running into by going through Concord is finding specialists that will perform the PFT. (I'm assuming this is the Civ Team you mentioned above.) We went through 3 specialists via Concorde for the College Station, Houston, Richland Hills area and NONE of them are performing PFT's right now. (COVID is the reason). The Concord contact thought maybe better going a different route, thus bringing me to the second option- MTF. Ft. Hood is the closest. However, getting someone on phone(no email available) is tough. Understandable with all that's going on. When I did have someone on phone from the Pulmonary Unit, she was asking about a MTF transfer document? I explained that by my understanding of the DOD document sent to Davis, is that document should gain entry to the base(I'm civilian) and get the test performed. It appears she won't schedule without the transfer document. No one seems to know what document that is per my son's inquiry to his immediate commander(Captain) I may be missing something in all of this!! Thanks for any input!! Greatly appreciated!

Have your son....the applicant...send me an email: Lawrence.e.mullen.civ@mail.mil; provide complete name and last 4; paste the posting about to the email. I can assist better from there.

For you...google DODMERB; hit "questions on the process;" read paragraph 4. I'm sure you'll understand :wiggle:
