Hello everyone, I just had a few questions. I have received the acceptance to USAFA and USNA summer seminars which are in June. Assuming I get accepted to Girls States, that would make 3 programs in June.

The problem is my school year ends June 22, so I don't think I can go to all 3 because that would be 3 weeks off from school. My top choice is USNA, so I am definitely to USNA SS but I don't know what do to between the other two. Thanks!

There are many threads discussing this so you might do a search. Short answer, Girls State adds points to your SA application, SS does not.
Yes DD had the same decision to make last June but only between NASS and GS. Went with GS as it was pointed out it gives you "points" for the Whole Candidate Score. GS is selective, essay required followed by interview. Then 7 days at a college campus with other girls. My DD had fun and was able to write about it in her MOC nomination and USNA applications.

Check with your school what their policy is. Last year my DD was accepted and attended five summer programs (back to back) starting at the end of May going thru the end of June. She had to miss the last two+ weeks of school to do it. She spoke with all of her teachers and got them to sign off on it. She took her AP exams. She received and finished all assignments before she left including taking all of her finals early. It was a real challenge but she did it. She had a great time.

I'm guessing Northeast, maybe NJ based on the late end to the school year.
Our Boys State always starts Fathers Day weekend and our state usually is just getting done with the school year so many/most
are missing school to do it. Lots of folks miss an additional week for at least one of the summer seminars and I've known quite
a few that missed three weeks without problems from their schools. As was said above, EARLY communication with the school
and teachers to ensure that finals are done ahead of time will normally make this do-able.

NOTE: My son missed 3 weeks for Boys State, NASS and another program so I saw it first-hand in my own house.

Yes, NJ was correct! Hopefully my schools allows me to go to all three. Thank you for your insight! I appreciate it.

Congrats on getting in to Girls State as it is very limited numbers wise - less than a quarter the size of NJ
Boys State.

Yes, unfortunately it is. My school is sending 1 girl but 12 boys.
Two programs run by VERY different people/committees.
PS, the Legion post that sponsors the boys could double that number if they chose to as there is no max number per post/school
but Girls State is set at a max number by the host site and that is the end of the discussion for that program.

The Ladies Auxillary would need to change their process, something I’ve advocated for that change in my area for a while.

First, they need a different host site. I am good friend with a former state auxiliary president and get lots of background info but
their committee is running it the way that they want to run it.

Our Boys State staff by itself is almost as large as their number of delegates. Many have ten or more years on staff.
As one of the executive trustees, I am extremely proud of what we have done and continue to do.

Definitely go to Girls State over any summer seminar. NASS will not help you get into USNA. Go speak with your teachers/principal about missing classes for that time period. Unless you have finals that cannot be moved it should not be an issue to miss school for these programs.
