Christmas Break

Brigade reform may be different than your Mids EOL. I have two Mids, their dates to return are different by a day. Honestly, it sounds redundant I know, but until your Mid gets their own EOL, it’s hard to know.

If you are trying to grab cheap fares? Make your best guess, or two, according the the academic calendar at USNA.EDU the. Cross your fingers and toes that’s it’s one or the other, and bank the one not used for future travel. *always refundable/changeable*

Not sure about reform, absolute end of leave is Jan 08, my DS has to be back for EOL formation on Jan 07, others sooner (e.g. Track & Field).

Those who often have to report back early: new stripers, varsity athletes, those headed to an academic Review Board or other hearing, those who might be headed out to a semester elsewhere.

The academic calendar shows class start dates. Reform is always a handful of days before that.

Your mid can see non-public-facing schedules and is in the best position to determine their date.

I'm going with Jan 7 at 2000.

What is EOL though?
But…if booking flights…they have to be scheduled to land xx hrs before EOL. In the past few years, it’s been 4 hrs before.

EOL can be End Of Liberty or End of Leave. Leave and liberty are not the same.

Thanksgiving, winter break, spring break, any intersessional leave between spring exams and return for Comm Week run-ups, and summer leave: freedom to leave the Academy. In the fullest sense. Plebes can wear civilian clothes, drive and drink if they are 21. Liberty is the local freedom to leave yoir place of duty or work and be gone for relatively short periods of time, even overnight, but with no relaxation of applicable midshipmen regulations.

My DS starts putting on his “navy face” about 6 hours before his flight back on each leave. It’s a really interesting phenomenon to observe. They live in two worlds, but not at the same time.

DD, now a firstie, has it down to about three hours. I wish her “Navy face” came with an “I’ll leave my bedroom neat and tidy this time” approach. Alas, it’s not to be. At least up to now. 🙄

My Mids ‘navy face’ is about an hour. Drives me nuts, and doesn’t NOT match his moms ‘omg hurry up’ face.

NO hope for the room. But I don’t mind one single bit. In fact? Makes me smile…😊

Just asked DS again about EOL/Reform at Christmas and I keep getting the "I dont know" speech. I will probably pull the trigger based on best guess and buy fully refundable tickets and will change as he learns more.

Has he at least given you the day he can leave, which depends on when he can finish exams?
Look forward to the day in a year or so when you train him up and turn him loose to manage his own travel. It’s a military life skill, and the sooner the better.

Something I learned when my daughters were in college --- let them make their own reservations ! One of my daughters missed a flight , and tried to blame us on the scheduling --- eliminate the problem and let them make their own reservations and accept responsibility.

One benefit of having them become responsible for their own travel is sipping coffee in your kitchen on a July Saturday morning, hearing the front door open, and have your son unexpectedly walk in with his sea bag slung over his shoulder a month early because his sub cruise was cut a week short.
