For the most part, I don't think we are. Now for this case, switching it to Government worker is not bad, it encompasses more possibilities too. You also want to keep it broad (too early to specialize).
However, I think most people are reacting to your earlier posts, and assume any posturing now is done in that same mindset. Maybe people are thinking back to posts involving comments alluding to the fact that in the military (which as of today you are not in) you have to lie alittle to get ahead, and play various supervisors off of each other. It doesn't help their faith in your honor when you say that for a AF recruiter you would say AF is your top pick, and for the Army recruiter that Army is your top pick. If you honestly don't know which is the top pick, then that's what should be said, but playing to tha audiance is not the right way to do it.
Publicly bashing someone's branch of the US Armed Forces (I'm refering to my Coast Guard), and then privately apologizing for it, doesn't quite cut it either. You trash someone else in front of people, you should be able to stand up in front of those same people and admit you were wrong.
This is what happens to lightning rods at academies. At first you're like everyone else, but the way you act and carry yourself may cause you to get extra attention. Sometimes that attention is negative. Sometimes that attention will mean someone is going to yell at you.
