Class 2023 Logging In Book - USMMA FOURTH CLASS QUESTIONNAIRE •

DS is still waiting for Class 2023 Logging In Book to arrive sometime in May. Reading the 2022 version it mentions an USMMA 4th Class Questionnaire to be filled out by middle of June. The Questionnaire must be returned to Midshipman Personnel prior to Indoctrination in the envelope marked MPO – Palmer Hall. Anyone remember what this questionnaire is about? What documents might my DS need to complete it?

Also how long does it take to complete Part 1 of the Haven Training?

One final question. My DS has tons of Nike white socks that all have the Nike symbol on them at the top. Is that acceptable or does it have to be plain white socks with no brand symbol?

Haven Training is online and takes less than an hour.

4th Class Questionnaire is one page and asks basic info like name, address, email, emergency contact, who nominated your DS/DD, if they have any military experience, etc. Takes 5 minutes.

The Nike symbol on socks will not matter. The shoes don't have to be 100% white either. Nobody is going to say anything, just make sure he runs a good amount. You don't need to buy a whole different set of socks. I know this, I was a drill instructor. The other poster is not.

Try to get shoes some combination of white/blue/gray which are Kings Point colors. If you do not already have socks, you should get plain white as joriebelle suggests. In spite of Mr2020 knowing everything about everything, you or your DD/DS may have a DI who values comformity. I know of plebe candidates who were given serious unwanted attention during INDOC because of sock and shoe issues. Not everyone has the same experience during INDOC (or beyond) and we have found a surprising amount of disparity among different companies and from year to year. I would recommend saving limit-pushing for more important issues.

Indoc is a few weeks long and nobody seems to care more about it than the parents. All of his questions are answered in the Logging In Book. Wait until it comes out, and do exactly what it says. Better yet, have your kid do it for him/herself!

Getting more attention is not a bad thing. We all laugh about who was doing what back during indoc 2015. Having a Nike symbol on the socks will not make the list of things that anybody will remember ever.

Except he’s right.

I know of plebe candidates who were given serious unwanted attention during INDOC because of sock and shoe issues.

1.This changed circa 2015... for my indoc, yeah, you would have taken some flack for having Nike socks, but that has changed.

2. Even if you do it doesn’t really matter. You’re going to take the exact same out of flack no matter what, socks are an easy target, if not they’ll just look for something else.

3. But like no one cares, and the people that do, and they’re getting made fun of behind the scenes.
