Class of 2015 - Mailbox Stalkers Club

An ALO friend just told me they had 6 declines so far in their region, people choosing UCLA, Embry, Harvard, USNA, and USMA over USAFA. So those appointment offers will go back in the pot, which is good for everyone still waiting! :thumb:

I find it very intriguing how we as parents (and our kids) rate/rank their higher education choices. I think only half of all college students are at the best fit, right school based on their skill sets, career goals, APTITUDE, passion, likes, school strenths and social cripple-factor. Just an observation.

Now back to your regularly-scheduled programming!

Well, I did it! I called our mailman (DS played football with his son), he has "offically" been put on ALERT!!! Thank goodness for small towns and great folks!

Can you guys come to Northwest Ohio? I actually know of a great martini bar, and there is an apple farm just one road over!! :shake:

I think I am going to go back to folding clothes!

MOMof5, you have walked on the wild side! Congrats! Oh, and what date is the martini party?

You guys are amazing.

When this thread started 3 weeks ago, it was not apparent if people will find this information interesting. In that short period of time this has become the most viewed thread on the forum with the most number of replies.

The way people have been willing to share information and ecourage each other is really heartening. I hope that no matter what happens over the next few weeks that the people on this thread will continue to track each other. For those of you going to I-Day, I think it would be amazing to meet during that time. :thumb:

Totally agree...and for those who don't get to go to I-day.....that group will be counting on the ones who do to be the "experts" next year!

FALCONFAMILY....I just realized that it was you who started this thread!!! We all need to pitch in and get you a gift!

We have had 40,200 views. WOW! I need to dress a little better next time!

Yea, here's a question, what about an applicant from our school with an underage for drinking and with a nomination? How doesn't that count into character or did they let the application or interviewer know?

My guess would be that the candidate reported it to the academy, and as others have said, they do in general tend to overlook a discretion like that if it was a one-time incident and the candidate can explain how they've grown from it and (more importantly) how it will never happen again. However, I do agree that it certainly won't HELP the file, but it would be possible to recover from. Most MOC applications that I've seen though don't usually ask questions about this. We had a candidate in our area last year with not one, not two, but THREE alcohol citations who received the principal nomination from the MOC. When WP found out he hadn't reported them, he did lose the appointment. But it was more because of the number of times and the lack of reporting them.

The best gift any of you can give, is to tell us that you have an appointment or that you will be a super motivated cadet at a college or prep school going forward. I think We'll all be able to look back at this time and come to realize that while some of us may have taken a different path, we will all have come to the same place.

Best to everyone here!

I have been watching for the past couple of weeks. I have been trying to stay away after watching the heartbreak my DS went through two years ago. He had 36,35,34 ACT scores, Eagle with palms, varsity letter in XC, marching band, retreat leader for school, JET team 1st in state etc.. Husband grad and active duty Colonel. We were floored. I only mention this because you should see my DS today. (God had a plan) My husband says, "He is living the dream". Even with rejection, come
great things. My DS clepped out of his freshman year at Notre Dame and has now over 90 credit hours as a sophomore with a double major. EE with nano tech and premed. He is on full military scholarship and LOVES his school. It wasn't what he had planned and feels extremely blessed. So, here we go with our DD. (I did try to talk her out of applying). While I am once again waiting for the mail, she receives a letter from a very nice school on the East Coast who is so impressed with her record they are paying and flying her out for a weekend in April. My point, have your dreams but back up plans could end up better than you could ever imagine.

Bravo!! And thank your kids for serving!

Well, our DS is the oldest of 4 boys and so I tend to see things a little differently than most! I sure pray that my husband and I get to meet everyone on this forum, Falconfamily thanks for keeping all of us positively charged! Hopefully it won't be too long until we are heading west to Colorado with you!

Thank you for sharing your story with all of us....it definitely is a sobering reminder that this process is unpredictable for most of us and that we really should embrace our "plan b" if necessary because it quite possibly should have been Plan A in the first place! That is why I try not to "compare" when I see stats that are posted by appointees etc. You just can't know what is driving these decicsions but you have to have faith that there is a method to the madness as they have been producing outstanding officers and aviators for many many years. It's so hard to see your child hurting.....especially a group of kids like this who are pretty accustomed to hitting it out of the ballpark every time. I'm so happy for your son and fingers crowssed for DD!

well...sorry not trying to go off track from the stalking subject...
YMG...I think this thread has gone a little rogue with the normal thread rules and I also think that it is unanimous that we like the occasional off topic.....it breaks up the monotony of the waiting.....ex. husband Watch forum. Seriously? A WATCH forum with like, 100000 threads. What evah do they talk about?

I grew up in a little town on the Chesapeake Bay of Virginia and there is an Olde English dialect there from the original colonists! You should hear how we say some things. Since I moved to the big city after college I've tried not to sound so odd but give me that Pinot and Lord have mercy!

So... FUNNY!!! I was a military wife for 12 years (husband's out now) and I completely loved the 'figuring out what people were saying' whenever we landed in a new place. Germany, Texas, but, Nawlins was the best!!!! It took me 2 years to figure out what the heck they were talkin about!!!!! When I visit family in MD it's always fun to hear that Baltimore twang again. Now we're living in CA so, no distinct accent and... kinda boring! Maybe I should give the Pinot a try. (The Merlot's not working)

I find it interesting that DS is so nonchalant about the whole thing. He certainly has USAFA as his plan A, but is at peace with his plan B. He is planning on doing AFROTC and 3 of his friends are planning on being in the same detachment. I am so impressed by him. Either way his goal is to be an officer in the world's greatest air force.

I, on the other hand, am the stalker of the mailbox.

I hesitate to ask this because it might be an off-topic BOMB , but did you all have a status change on Dodmerb and if so, does anyone care to make any comments about the potential meaning of same? Wow, I just sounded like Charlie Chan!

And to Dad, I AM the ONLY stalker here. It's a lonely job...... but I have my club members here....

My mom and I are the stalkers in my house! I usually check the mail and she asks if there is a BFE in the pile as I walk in. I told her about the great parents on here, especially you vamom, and she has decided she is going to join her son's class! :shake:

We look forward to meeting you all at the AFA in June!

well, flyusa93, I sure hope that we will all be there. We deserve it after all this stalking! I"m glad you like my posts.....I find that so many threads in forums take on a contentious tone (no matter the topic...my husbands WATCH forum can get really dicey...what about I have NO earthly idea!) Why be rude and edgy when you can just enjoy the ride. Cause as much as I would like to think differently, our blog will NOT change the outcome of anyone's status! But it can make us feel much better about not getting the status change that we want! ;O

Plan B

So.... not a good day for us here in MBstalkerland - CA edition. DS didn't get in to another plan B school. That brings the non-acceptance total to three this past week. CA is tough. Just really hope he gets some good news (AFA!!!) this next week. He has a backup plan - and it's a good one (UC Santa Barbara) but I know what would make him happy... Keeping hope alive in the land of make believe. (NOT the happiest place on earth these days....)

DODMERB and others

vamom! Thanks for answering one of my questions a few pages ago. And I've told my mom about you too! My mother is rather clueless of the entire AFA process. The only thing she talks about is how much I will be gone if I go.

But anyway, you said something about a DODMERB status change. Well, I tried to log in to my account and it says my Info. combination is invalid, so I tried to change my password and it says it doesn't even know my username! But I have not tried to log into the system since I got approved back in november. At least AFA application says 'medically qualified.'

Other than that, I have seen no BFE in my mailbox, and Im still 'Complete/Candidate'

USAFA Admissions Facebook Page says that letters were mailed out Tuesday though, so I'm looking forward for this coming weekend!

Signing off...
