Class of 2015 - Mailbox Stalkers Club

So.... not a good day for us here in MBstalkerland - CA edition. DS didn't get in to another plan B school. That brings the non-acceptance total to three this past week. CA is tough. Just really hope he gets some good news (AFA!!!) this next week. He has a backup plan - and it's a good one (UC Santa Barbara) but I know what would make him happy... Keeping hope alive in the land of make believe. (NOT the happiest place on earth these days....)

Sorry about your news and glad he has a good backup. Keep the faith....humor helps.....it keeps psychosis at bay. I sure would like to know what is happening in the AFA admissions right now! WORD: PICK THE STALKERS! :thumb:

gotaplay2, what district of CA are you from?
I'm from 15-Honda

back up plans could end up better than you could ever imagine.

To usafa84: Very well put! And, thanks for the reality check! My DS has made an excellent choice for Plan B. It's almost shameful to call it a Plan B... And, I KNOW that he will have incredible opportunities there.

However, I am still stalking the mailbox, checking the vm, and anxiously hoping/waiting for news from USAFA...

Ya, I'm in the Honors Program at BYU... at least I'll stay academically competitive for a go next year if I have to. Life can really be interesting at times.

I find it interesting that DS is so nonchalant about the whole thing. He certainly has USAFA as his plan A, but is at peace with his plan B. He is planning on doing AFROTC and 3 of his friends are planning on being in the same detachment. I am so impressed by him. Either way his goal is to be an officer in the world's greatest air force.

I, on the other hand, am the stalker of the mailbox.
Mailbox Stalking is a pleasure not reserved simply for moms.

Good Morning Everyone! Hope you are all ready for another day of mailbox stalking and flooding of webservers. =P Best of luck to you all with the possibility of the wave hitting today!

And, if you get a TWE, don't fret, because that could mean you are going to the prep school with me. =D

Hi Everyone! I am a longtime lurker, but I dont really post too much. If I might, I would just like to share a bit of our story. My son applied to USMA and USAFA last year. He did not get in. DONT GIVE UP!!! He went to a university and took classes that mirror the academies. He worked hard to increase his CFA, he performed MORE comminity service....in other words, he continued to improve his application. Guess what? That hard work paid off in an appointment to USMA (Principal Nomination) Still waiting for USAF with all of you wonderful people.....I tend to not post much, but I can feel the anticipation in each post, and I understand completely, believe me. But please just know, if serving our country is your son/daughter's dream, it can be done, if not this year, then next. You have read lots of posts Im sure from great kids who didnt get in the first try. Keep trying!! I hope this helps just alittle with the waiting and the perspective.....

Thank you

parker1 - thank you for your encouraging words. That may be us this year and my son also says he will reapply. It's his dream. If we don't make it this year - we will shoot for next. Thank you again for your encouragement.

Good morning fellow Stalkers. You all are fun-crazy - I feel like I fit right in! Today and tomorrow are probably going to be big days and I'm "feeling the burn". The facebook page said the BFE's went out Monday, but probably physically din't go out til Tuesday so......

I would not put much stock into the FB posting. The fact is Boards meet on Monday, results go to admissions on Tuesday, notifications are released on Wed.

At least that is how it has occurred for the past 5 yrs.

Look at the appointment thread and you will see by the dates that most are on Tues. (that is the date on the letter), some will place appt for date received, but that than puts you at Friday.

The reason some MOCs do not call until Monday is because, the Hill rarely works M-F. By Thursday many of them have cleared out of town and will not get back until Monday. Thus, that is why if the MOC calls it may not happen until Monday. Yet, if the MOC does not call and people find out via BFE, it is usually going to by Thurs-Sat.

Remember FB is not like this site where posters have lived through this for yrs and yrs as a cadet or a parent of a cadet.

FB posters probably believe that because the board met on Monday the answers go out right away, as I illustrated this is completely false. They missed the step that the RD is in charge of sending out the packets. These boards meet for an entire day, not for an hour or two.

I know it may appear as I am anti-FB, I am not. I am just opposed to how the system is not moderated and info can go viral within seconds from a poster who is just a candidate like everyone else. In other words speculation.

Again look at the dates Mar 1, Mar 8, Mar 22. What do they all have in common? They are all Tues. Letter goes Wed. candidates find out Fri/Sat, and post at that time.

So otherwise we might be having a great weekend or a not so great weekend depending on what the mailman brings! OMG! DS last night was saying that he'll reapply next year if he doesn't get in. Does anyone know if the Prep school notificatons are also going out? So don't want the weekend mail to come if its a TWE! Are TWE's going out as well this week?

Jagabiti.....I would like to know that as well. I guess no one (so far) as posted anything about getting a TWE.....so far. Maybe they wait until all of those who are offered admission have a chance to accept or decline before the TWE goes out. Also, I have seen several times on several threads that the often the candidate will get a TWE and then a few days later will get a Prep offer.

TWEs have already started to go out because the candidate did not meet the line for NWL. Reasons can vary. Some will get a TWE, but be offered a prep slot. some will get a TWE.

Remember not everyone goes on the NWL. At this point they probably already know who is just not going to make that list from a WCS perspective. Thus, they will send the TWE now.

This yr is unique because they are going to offer fewer apptmts, which means from a historical statistical standpoint, even fewer 3Qs with nom will be taken from the list.

For example, let's say for the last 5 yrs 20% come off the NWL (just throwing numbers). Last yr they had 500 without an apptmt, and they know 100 will come from the NWL. There is no need to keep all 500 on the list, but they do need to keep a buffer amount. Now this yr they may see already that fewer are declining the apptmts and maybe only 15% will come off, but because the class size reduced, they now have 700 without an appt. Again, only 100 would get in off the list. No need to keep number 601-700 on the fence.

Again, my numbers were used for mathematical purposes/ease, so don't jump to OMG only 20% came off ly and now ty only 15%.

Also, remember, some will receive the TWE because a prep school offer may occur. However, remember why the prep school exists, it exists to get cadets up to a different academic std. If you have a 34 ACT, 4.0 gpa and 9 APs, don't be looking for a prep school slot.

PIMA! As always, thanks for your great explanations!

Pima, you are going to have to babysit us for the next couple of weeks. Thank goodness you are there. When I read one phrase you said "historical statistical standpoint", my fried and overanxious brain saw..............HYSTERICAL statistical standpoint. Yep, that's where I am today mentally. HYSTERICAL, and I don't mean funny. As each day passes (I know, I am irrational) I am getting more nervous. Husband at his post today, will report in after mail box check this afternoon. When in a hurry or tense, I slap on too much makeup. Today, I look like LUCILLE BALL at my desk.
